Creative Studio Dorothy Launch Alternative World Cups Tournament
Liverpool based creative studio Dorothy has launched an Alternative World Cups tournament to coincide with FIFA’s own World Cup 2026 competition.
From seeding and cup draws to commentary, league tables and knockout rounds, Dorothy playfully combines a love of football with cup kitsch to create a tournament with a twist.
48 cups (and countries) from around the world are participating in the competition. Cups from as far afield as Australia to Uruguay are going to head to head in daily ‘matches’ which are played out on Dorothy’s Instagram stories. The public are being asked to vote to keep their favourite in the tournament.
Key grudge matches include USA V France (Statue of Liberty Mug V Eiffel Tower mug), England V Scotland (novelty mustard cup V novelty kilt mug) and Germany V Belgium (battle of the beer steins).

On 20 July the two remaining teams will go head to head in Dorothy’s Alternative World Cups Final to crown the triumphant winner.
Daily action can be followed on Dorothy’s Instagram stories or by visiting Dorothy’s studio in the Baltic Triangle Liverpool which is hosting an exhibition of all 48 cups involved in the tournament until 20th July.
Dorothy are also selling a Special Edition World Cups print to accompany the tournament which can be bought for £20 from their site here.
