Formed by musicians from a variety of different projects, Bigger Boat brings together Tom from Novelty Island, Alan Mueller from Satin Green, George (Georgie Weston) and drummer Nathan Sanderson.
Bigger Boat will officially introduce themselves with a launch show on 14 November. Ahead of the show, Liverpool Noise caught up with the band to find out how Bigger Boat came together, what inspired their debut material and what they hope to do next.
How did Bigger Boat come together, and what made this the right time for the four of you to start a new band?
Three of us (Tom, George and Alan) met after Satin Green supported Novelty Island last year and we had a drunken sing song round the piano. We’ve all got our own solo projects but it felt silly for us to not collaborate on something. After 6 months of us writing as a trio we were after the most charismatic drummer we could find and Nathan appeared out of the smoke…
You’ve each been involved in different projects. What does everyone bring to Bigger Boat? Where do your musical tastes meet?
George and Tom are from the north of England and they’ve combined with Alan’s mid-west American twang for a transatlantic blur of pop and harmonies. Nathan then hits stuff very hard, launching the Bigger Boat out to sea…
How would you describe your sound?
Heavy Pop
You already have an album’s worth of material. How did the songs come together, and are there any themes running through them?
Even though we wrote the majority of the album in a cottage in Shropshire, we’ve been writing transatlantic shanties about robots, canyons and getting drunk.
Your launch show takes place on 14 November. What can people expect from the night?
We’re gonna play the album in full as a full band, we have support from Flower Show and The Non Stick Pans
What would you like Bigger Boat to do next, once you’ve played the launch show?
We want to be the first band to run for president…
