Scouse Girl Social Celebrates First Anniversary After Bringing Together More Than 3,500 Girls

Scouse Girl Social is celebrating its first anniversary after more than 3,500 girls attended its events during its first 12 months.

Created to encourage confidence, self-expression and a sense of belonging among young girls, the Liverpool initiative has grown rapidly since launching, bringing together girls and families alongside local businesses, schools and cultural partners.

Now, the team behind Scouse Girl Social is marking the milestone with its biggest celebration of the year – a full-day takeover of BOXPARK Liverpool on Sunday 11 October.

The anniversary event will feature fashion, beauty, creativity, live performances, activities and shopping, with plenty of opportunities for girls to get involved throughout the day.

Scouse Girl Social is powered by Girls With Dreams Club (GWDC), an initiative founded in 2023 by Liverpool businesswoman and Urban Calm founder Nic Byrne.

Nic developed the project alongside qualified Integrative Counsellor and self-described “Confidence Creator” Sarah Worsley, and Francesca Kearns, founder of Liverpool fashion brand Francesca Couture.

The three were friends before becoming collaborators, with the idea emerging from conversations they were having as parents about some of the pressures facing children growing up today.

Social media, comparison, body image and confidence – particularly among girls – were recurring concerns, prompting the trio to consider how they could create spaces where young people could feel accepted and comfortable being themselves.

Drawing on research around confidence and self-esteem, Sarah’s counselling background and their collective experience of working with girls, families, communities and businesses, Girls With Dreams Club began developing workshops, events and community initiatives.

Scouse Girl Social became the name for its growing programme of social experiences.

“We loved the name Scouse Girl Social because everything about it represents what we want girls to feel,” Sarah explains.

“It’s about being proud of where you come from, but you don’t have to be from Liverpool to be a Scouse Girl. It’s about accepting everyone, celebrating what makes us different and having the confidence to be yourself. It’s a state of mind, not a postcode.”

The response was almost immediate. Tickets for the first Scouse Girl Social event sold out within days, with a waiting list quickly following.

“We genuinely couldn’t believe it,” Sarah says. “We were completely overwhelmed by the response. We had put so much thought into creating something that girls actually needed, and suddenly we knew hundreds of families felt the same way.”

Listening to the girls themselves has since become an important part of how the programme develops.

Feedback gathered from young people and their families at the first event helped shape the activities that followed, with Scouse Girl Social expanding into creativity, fashion, music, wellbeing and confidence-building experiences.

Nic says the aim is to give girls different opportunities to discover where they feel most comfortable expressing themselves.

“One girl might find her confidence through a workshop, another through singing, another through fashion or walking a catwalk, and another simply by coming into a room where she feels accepted.

“We want every child to have a moment where she can express herself and feel celebrated for it.”

Scouse Girl Social Returns To BOXPARK Liverpool

The first anniversary celebration on Sunday 11 October will be sponsored by Liverpool law firm Morecrofts, which has supported Girls With Dreams Club and Scouse Girl Social since its early days.

Following its first year, the team hopes to continue expanding Scouse Girl Social across Merseyside and beyond, creating more opportunities for girls regardless of their background, appearance or ability.
