Visions of Albion Return With Cinematic New Single ‘Avenues’

Liverpool’s ever-evolving music scene continues to produce artists who draw confidently from the past while carving out something distinctly their own, and Visions of Albion are a perfect example. Their new single Avenues, released today (13 March), is a beautifully layered track that leans into cinematic atmosphere while remaining rooted in classic songwriting craft.

From the opening moments, Avenues establishes a sense of space and mood. There’s an unmistakable nod to the baroque pop sophistication of The Beatles alongside the darker, more hypnotic textures associated with The Doors. Yet the track never feels like pastiche. Instead, Visions of Albion filter these influences through their own contemporary lens, blending vintage instrumentation with modern production to create something timeless rather than nostalgic.

The arrangement is where Avenues truly shines. Marxophones, sweeping string flourishes, mellotron tones and delicate arpeggiated synthesizers gradually unfold around the song’s core melody, allowing the track to evolve organically. Rather than rushing toward a traditional pop chorus structure, the song takes its time, prioritising atmosphere and emotional progression. Each element feels carefully placed, contributing to a slow build that rewards patient listening.

Formed in 2018, the Liverpool duo combine Sam Shield’s evocative vocals with Daniel Ryan’s intricate fingerstyle guitar work to craft a sound that feels both expansive and intimate. Their influences range from the jangling melodies of the late-1960s West Coast scene to the warmth of Laurel Canyon songwriters and the brooding tones of the English folk revival. On Avenues, those influences blend seamlessly, creating a textured soundscape that feels as fresh as it does familiar.

As they continue work on their much-anticipated debut album, Avenues offers a compelling glimpse into the world Visions of Albion are building. It’s a thoughtful, cinematic track that showcases their ability to balance nostalgia with originality — and further cements their place as one of Liverpool’s most intriguing music projects.
