Food and Drink in Liverpool

Dishoom Permit Room Liverpool is Now Open

Dishoom’s all-day bar-café, Permit Room, has officially opened its doors in the heart of Liverpool following a hugely successful soft launch period, welcoming its first guests to Exchange Court, No. 1 Dale Street.

After an incredible week of soft launch celebrations, with guests enjoying 50% off food and sharing glowing feedback, Permit Room Liverpool is now fully open and already fast becoming one of the city’s most talked-about dining destinations.

Located in the former Royal Bank of Scotland building at Exchange Court, the newest outpost from the team behind Dishoom brings the spirit and sociability of Bombay’s Permit Rooms to Liverpool city centre. Just moments from Castle Street and Liverpool ONE, the restaurant sits proudly at the heart of the action, offering an all-day space for breakfast bites, leisurely lunches, after-work cocktails and late-night gatherings.

Thomas Dolby, General Manager of Permit Room Liverpool, said: “The response from Liverpool has been phenomenal. Throughout our soft launch we’ve welcomed hundreds of guests through the doors and the feedback has been truly amazing – the warmth, the energy and the love for the food and drinks has exceeded all expectations. We’re so proud to now be officially open and to bring the Permit Room experience to this incredible city.”

A Lively All-Day Destination

Permit Room Liverpool blends Bombay’s drinking culture with Dishoom’s much-loved dishes and a vibrant bar offering. Guests can drop in for seriously good bar snacks, flavour-packed curries and sharing plates, alongside iconic favourites.

Menu highlights include Crispy Spinach Chaat, the richly spiced Chef’s Lamb Curry and the coconutty Prawn Moilee. The Permit Room Mixed Grill is something very special, comprising eight Chicken Wings, Half Chicken Tandoori, Lamb Kebabs and Lamb Chops – served with green chutney, pickled onions and kachumber. It’s designed as a centrepiece for lively tables and long conversations.

For mornings (or the morning after), there are Breakfast Naan Rolls, The Full Permit with nicely spiced Akuri and smoky bacon, and the indulgent sweet-and-savoury Permit Room French Toast. Bottomless House Chai flows freely to ease guests into the day.

Walk In, Or Book Ahead

While reservations are available all day, every day, Permit Room Liverpool always holds back tables for walk-in guests, meaning spontaneous visits are warmly welcomed and advance booking is not always required. Whether it’s a quick drink at the bar, a casual dinner with friends or a full celebration, there’s always space to pull up a chair.

Cocktails, Beer Towers and Teetotal Tipples

The drinks menu is central to the Permit Room experience. Expect Short and Boozy serves, Twisted Classics and refreshing Highballs, including favourites such as the Blushing Dawn Paloma and the Thums Up Sazerac.

Beer lovers can gather around Kingfisher Beer Towers – three litres of India’s golden lager, served ice-cold at the table – while the Teetotal selection offers thoughtful alcohol-free options full of flavour and character.

Local collaborations remain at the heart of the drinks programme, with Liverpool partnerships and events set to be announced in the coming months.

A Space Full of Character

Inside, the interiors balance retro-industrial design with warmth and personality – exposed concrete, wood panelling and a rich collection of artwork from local Liverpool artists, contemporary Bombay creatives and emerging South Asian talent. Vinyl covers, gig posters and personal photographs add to the lively, nostalgic charm.

Music is, of course, essential. Weekly resident DJs and an upbeat playlist spanning funk, punk, hip-hop, Bollywood, disco and soul ensure that Permit Room Liverpool is as much about the atmosphere as it is about the food and drink.

Following its standout soft launch and exceptional early feedback, Permit Room Liverpool is set to become a firm fixture in the city’s thriving hospitality scene.
