Motel Sundown Return with Urgent New Single The Waiting Game

Liverpool alt-country outfit Motel Sundown continue their strong run of releases with The Waiting Game, a track that once again highlights the band’s knack for immediacy and melody.

From the very first seconds, The Waiting Game wastes no time pulling the listener in. The vocals arrive instantly, setting a sense of urgency that’s carried throughout the song’s brisk tempo and driving rhythm. It feels restless by design — a fitting backdrop for a track that began life as a poem reflecting on the balancing act between everyday responsibilities and the constant push-and-pull of life in the music industry.

Sonically, the single is unmistakably Motel Sundown. Luscious three-part harmonies weave through the track, nodding to classic country influences, while fingerpicked acoustics, subtle slapback vocal delay and a beautifully retro-toned guitar solo give the song a timeless quality. Despite its fast pace, there’s space in the arrangement, allowing the harmonies to breathe and the songwriting to shine.

The Waiting Game was engineered by Robert Johnson and mixed and mastered by Sean Reid, whose past work includes Iggy Pop, The Pretenders and Edwyn Collins — a pedigree that’s evident in the track’s crisp yet warm production.

The single marks the fourth release from Motel Sundown’s forthcoming EP The Signs in the Rush of Light, due in Spring 2026. The seven-track release will also feature previous singles Rosie — which earned comparisons to Fleetwood Mac and CSNY — alongside Echoes, Colours in the Rain and What Do I Know, further cementing the band’s reputation for thoughtful songwriting wrapped in rich, roots-inflected arrangements.

With The Waiting Game, Motel Sundown deliver another confident step forward — a fast-moving, harmony-rich track that captures both the tension and momentum of a band very much in their stride.
