Katie Nicholas’ ‘Chemistry’ EP: Revisiting The Songs That Started It All
Liverpool-born singer-songwriter and producer Katie Nicholas has made a triumphant return to the music scene with her brand new Chemistry EP, released on 11 July 2025. Marking a celebration of her early songwriting years, this four-track collection breathes new life into the songs that originally kickstarted her career — lovingly reworked and self-produced by Katie herself.
Katie’s sound bridges the heartfelt storytelling of traditional country with the catchy hooks of contemporary pop. BBC Radio 6 has called her “a serious talent,” while Country Music People praises her “voice as fresh as a mountain stream.” Her witty, lyric-driven style has often drawn comparisons to UK’s very own Kacey Musgraves and Dolly Parton, positioning Katie as a standout figure in British country music.
The songs on Chemistry were penned between the ages of 16 and 19, encapsulating the emotions and experiences of her formative years. Yet, this EP is far from a simple nostalgia trip — Katie has reworked and produced the tracks to create “the record my younger self would have dreamt of making,” combining youthful energy with her matured artistry. The title track, Chemistry, originally went viral back in 2013 after Katie posted a charming DIY Valentine’s music video on YouTube. Now revisited with the support of award-winning AMA instrumentalists, it shines brighter than ever.

Katie’s journey to this point hasn’t been straightforward. After bursting onto the British country scene over a decade ago and supporting acts like The Shires and Ward Thomas at iconic venues such as Bush Hall, she faced a long period of silence. Under the guidance of a mentor, her early releases were pulled from digital stores to allow her to start fresh and grow as an artist. Her honest story, shared candidly through her ongoing Songwriter Diaries video series on YouTube, reveals the challenges of navigating the music industry and the resilience required to reclaim her voice.
Despite industry hurdles, Katie’s independent spirit has seen her take control of her music through her own label, Ladybird Records — “little but bold.” She’s continued to thrive live, selling out headline shows at Liverpool Philharmonic Music Room and performing at major festivals including Buckle & Boots and BBC Introducing Highest Point. Her international presence has grown too, with performances in Nashville as part of Whispering Bob Harris’s Under The Apple Tree event and featuring in the SSL Audio advert.
Chemistry is a heartfelt and humorous reintroduction to an artist who never truly left the scene. Katie Nicholas’s blend of cross-picking country melodies, quick-witted lyricism, and creative visual storytelling promises a bright future ahead. With Chemistry, she invites listeners old and new to join her on this exciting next chapter.
