Red Rum Club’s Latest Single ‘The River’ Is A Feel-Good Nostalgia-Filled Hit
With summer behind us, Red Rum Club are still making us feel like we’re out on a sunny road trip with friends. Prior to their largest tour yet, the Liverpudlian six-piece have a brand-new single, The River, out now. This joyful, acoustic guitar-driven track contrasts with the crunchy bassline and groovy tone of the previous single, Vanilla.
Following the success of their 2021 album, How To Steal The World, the band flew to the US to headline their first North American Tour. It is without a doubt this has given them the confidence to continue the evolution of their unique take on the indie pop scene. After selling out Liverpool’s Eventim Olympia for two nights in a row, concluding their upcoming UK and Ireland tour. It’s evident that the band is becoming exponentially more popular, and this is no surprise.
Red Rum Club explained that “The River is about the peaks and troughs of adolescence. The River Mersey was the spot for spontaneous celebrations of youth, teenage love, and loss. This track reminisces on summer days of blue skies and brown water.”
Whilst the song is about their hometown in Merseyside, there is a hint of American influence in the sound. This was a conscious decision after their first tour of the US in March.
Red Rum Club – The River Official Video
The music video uses grainy film to create authentic style, capturing the members of the band playing around on a US road trip. The youthful video matches the warm feeling that the simple, yet memorable acoustic guitar and vocals capture in the beginning of the song. Tom William’s sliding guitar adds a subtle blues/country feel, once again bringing us back to our summer days. The signature trumpet creates a smooth transition for the punchy snare and kick drum with a simple, melodic bass, all of which raise the energy of the song. The easy to sing along to chorus is delivered with full force, creating an unforgettable sound that anybody could dance to.
The River is undeniably catchy, and can be described as a song that makes you reminisce on your happiest memories in the summer with loved ones. With The River and Vanilla being a strong start to their latest music, we expect they will continue to give us more of the songs we love.
