Lucy Gaffney Releases Storming Debut Single ‘Can’t Escape’
Liverpool-based singer-songwriter Lucy Gaffney releases her eagerly awaited debut single Can’t Escape.
Backed by some of Liverpool’s finest, she’s already been on the road with the likes of Bill Ryder-Jones and She Drew The Gun. Fairly fresh to the solo artist gig, her debut single which was co-produced by The Coral’s James Skelly and Thom Southern, opens up a beautifully written pop track powered by unrequited love and the bitter sting of heartbreak. Lucy has said that some of the inspiration has came from Radiohead’s In Rainbows.
With her backdrop of Parr Street Studios she released a flood of emotion and guillotine-sharp lyrics, Gaffney has executed this mixture wonderfully. Rich with jangle-guitar lines and vocal harmonies, Gaffney’s opening statement of intent couldn’t be more convincing. The timbre of her voice gives such a delicate balance to the entire structure, sitting on top of an energy-driven rhythm section.
Growing up in Belfast, her musical knowledge stems from a creative upbringing back in Belfast, notably gigging with her brother has evidently prepared her for a gigging lifestyle.
Can’t Escape was released on Friday 17 April with Modern Sky Records, forerunners in showcasing some brilliant talent and with lots of new music to come from Lucy, you’d better be ready!
