Replica 16th Century Spanish Galeón Andalucía to Dock in Liverpool This Autumn
A spectacular full-size replica of a 16th-century Spanish galleon will sail into Liverpool this autumn, giving visitors a rare chance to step aboard one of history’s most legendary ships. The Galeón Andalucía will be docked at Liverpool’s waterfront from 24 September – 5 October 2025, opening its decks to the public for an immersive maritime experience.
The ship is a faithful reconstruction of the vessels once used by the Spanish Crown between the 16th and 18th centuries, which crossed the Atlantic, Caribbean, and Pacific on the world’s longest-running maritime trade routes. Known as the Fleet of the Indies, these armed merchant ships transported not only goods but also culture, connecting Spain, America, and Asia for over three centuries.
Constructed after three years of meticulous research into original designs, the Galeón Andalucía took 17 months to build and was launched in 2010. At 49 metres long and 10 metres wide, with six decks and 930 square metres of sail, it is both a feat of historic reconstruction and modern craftsmanship.
Since its maiden voyage, the galleon has travelled tens of thousands of nautical miles across the world’s oceans, from the Mediterranean and Caribbean to the Pacific and Indian Oceans. It is crewed by 15–35 sailors and has capacity to welcome thousands of visitors while in port.
Liverpool visitors will be able to explore the ship’s six decks, from the gun deck and main hall to the living quarters, and learn about the history of the Spanish galleons that once dominated global trade. The Galeón Andalucía also hosts cultural events, exhibitions, and educational activities, making it a highlight for families, maritime enthusiasts, and history lovers alike.
The ship will be moored at Liverpool’s waterfront and open daily to the public during its stay.
