Pleasure Island Presents The Penny Lane Weekender

Pleasure Island presents the Penny Lane Weekender, a brand-new two-day festival, set to rock Dovedale Towers, Penny Lane, Liverpool on August 5 and 6. The event promises to showcase a captivating mix of local and UK artists spanning the genres of rock and electronic music.

That the event is planned and produced by the artists themselves, shows a refreshing change to similar music festivals that have a more corporate influence on their production. The Penny Lane Weekender is a reflection of the diverse roles that musicians are having to fulfill in order to showcase their talent and provide entertainment for music lovers, in the background of financial struggles in wider society and the arts sector. You can be sure that the performers will benefit from your attendance, with your support going directly to the acts.

Speaking of the festival, Sean Ekins – organiser and one half of Pleasure Island – said:
It was a desire to do something in the local area, five minutes away from where I live and care for greatly. Half the line up is bands we have had the fortune of meeting on our tours of the UK, the rest is our favourite local bands, plus a bit of help from my good friend Tony”

The band have teamed up with local promoter Tony Chestnut, a long time collaborator for the band’s Liverpool shows. Sean continues: – “Myself and Tony have been working on shows for a few years now, but we haven’t had a chance to put on something which brought in acts from outside the area. Tony’s specialty is an in depth knowledge of the Liverpool scene, so we wanted to bring him in to complement our new friends from outside the city”

The first wave of artists confirmed for the Liverpool Penny Lane Weekender are sure to cause a buzz amongst Northern music enthusiasts, with bands hailing from Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield and Nottingham.
