Motel Sundown Release Radiant New Track ‘Colours In The Rain’

Liverpool’s Motel Sundown return with their latest single Colours In The Rain and it’s a showcase of the band at their best. Known for their lush harmonies and timeless Americana sound, the group have crafted a track that blends heartfelt reflection with an irresistible upbeat tempo.

Written in the shadow of grief but illuminated by hope, Colours In The Rain is an evocative meditation on staying true to yourself and finding light even in dark moments. Where previous singles like Echoes showcased the band’s tender, slow-burning side, this release pulses with a different energy — warm, rhythmic guitar strums give the song its pulse, while the trio’s trademark three-part harmonies soar with conviction.

The chorus — “I see colours in the rain, pouring down… do what you want, not what they say” — distils the song’s message into a poignant yet defiant reminder to walk your own path. It’s both intimate and universal, drawing listeners into a space where sadness and resilience co-exist, and where everyday beauty shines through.

Since forming in 2018, Motel Sundown have steadily built a reputation as one of the North West’s most compelling folk-Americana acts. Their 2022 debut album If You Were Listening laid the foundation, while last year’s El Dorado EP and high-profile support slots cemented their rising status. With Colours In The Rain, they channel the spirit of Laurel Canyon with a modern edge, delivering a track that feels at once nostalgic and refreshingly current.

It’s another reminder that Motel Sundown don’t need to shout to be heard — they captivate by weaving melody, meaning, and emotion into songs that linger long after the final note.

Motel Sundown have even more on the horizon, with their second EP due for release in Spring 2026. The seven-track collection will showcase the band’s distinctive songwriting. The trio took a hands-on approach to recording, laying down several songs in their own home studio with the help of friends and local session musicians on bass, drums, keys and fiddle.

Fans can already dive into Rosie, Echoes and Colours in The Rain, ahead of the EP’s arrival next year, and catch Motel Sundown live at a string of autumn shows including 9 October at the Philharmonic Music Room, where they’ll be joined by a pianist and string quartet to celebrate the venue’s 10th birthday. Further dates follow at Liverpool’s Handyman Brewery (11 October), The Colne Delta in Brightlingsea (21 November) and Albion Nights, Norfolk (22 November).
