The first weekend of October is set to be a milestone moment for Liverpool’s jazz lovers, as Ma Boyle’s celebrates 10 years of its much-loved Jazz Saturdays while launching an exciting new weekly night – the Latin Jazz Social Club.
On Friday 3rd October, Parrjazz kicks off the Latin Jazz Social Club, a vibrant addition to Liverpool’s music scene featuring Cuban rhythms, Brazilian grooves, samba, and bossa nova. The launch night sees Cuba Vida bring their unique fusion of salsa, funk, reggae-ton and jazz to the heart of the city. Each week throughout October will showcase the North’s finest jazz musicians, with sets from Hamilton Luduvice (10th), Mambo Collective (17th), Martino Ferriero (24th) and Samba and The Chips (31st).
The celebrations continue on Saturday 4th October as Jazz Saturdays turns ten. Over the past decade, the weekly event has become Liverpool’s longest-running jazz night, with iconic names including Mica Paris, Sid Jacobs, Baiana, Sue Rynhart and Daniel John Martin gracing the stage. To mark the occasion, Geni Lamb and the Parrjazz House Bandits will perform a special extended anniversary set with guest appearances from their ever-growing family of collaborators.
Iain Hoskins, owner of Ma Boyle’s, reflects on the milestone: “We’re tremendously proud to reach 10 years of Jazz Saturdays, which also marks 10 years since I brought Ma Boyle’s back from closure. Live jazz became our heartbeat, and with the tireless support of Parrjazz, it’s grown into something we couldn’t imagine Ma’s without. Now, with the Latin Jazz Social Club on Fridays, we’ve created a full weekend of world-class jazz right here in Liverpool.”
Parrjazz’s Geni Lamb adds: “Liverpool has embraced Jazz Saturdays as its Saturday Night Jazz Oasis, and it’s wonderful to mark our tenth year with the launch of the Latin Jazz Social Club. Expect great music, great vibes, world-class guests – and of course, Ma’s famous Blind Scouse!”
