Ayawaska ‘The Ride’ Single Review

Melodic guitars lead to a fine piece of indie rock with retro leanings on this track. The Ride is upbeat and cheerful with an edge of cool that makes it a little bit special. It feels more like the sound of summer than a track released in chilly January – the sound of things to come; a release from the current drabness. Describing themselves as Indie, Rock, Alternative, Psychedelic their sound most definitely encompasses all of these yet manages to sound fresh and contemporary.

The video is a psychedelic bicycle tour of the Liverpool waterfront, which fits the mood of the song perfectly. There is a slightly surreal feel to the visuals, but it is a lot of fun and matches the ethos of the lyrics. The Ride is an accomplished and truly enjoyable musical trip.

The band consists of Mike Juvenile on guitar and vocals, Marc Allan Gibbs on bass and Dan Delgado on drums. Hailing from Runcorn, the band have a true Mersey sound – me lodic but edgy too. As Ayawaska only came together in 2016, let’s hope they go from strength to strength and bring us more elevating sounds in the future.
