A Dazzling Experience Like No Other
Liverpool Cathedral will extend its opening hours on select dates, allowing more visitors to witness the breathtaking seven-meter sculpture of the Sun. Created at a scale of 1:200 million, every centimetre of Helios represents 2,000km of the Sun’s surface. Guests will be able to observe intricate details such as sunspots, spicules, and solar flares—phenomena usually millions of miles away!
This isn’t just art—it’s an immersive experience. Accompanied by a custom surround sound composition featuring solar sounds, NASA mission recordings, and uplifting music, Helios will create a sensory journey that connects visitors to the Sun’s power, warmth, and significance.
Completing the Celestial Trilogy
Liverpool Cathedral is proud to be the first venue in the world to have showcased three of Luke Jerram’s celestial artworks. Helios celebrates the Sun’s life-giving power and its importance across cultures and faiths.
Very Revd Dr Sue Jones, Dean of Liverpool, shares:
“We are thrilled to be the first cathedral to host Helios and to complete the celestial trilogy of Luke Jerram’s artworks here at Liverpool Cathedral. Helios is a stunning celebration of the Sun’s life-giving power and its significance across cultures and faiths. It’s a privilege to bring such an awe-inspiring installation to our community and visitors, reaffirming our place at the heart of Liverpool’s cultural life. We are delighted that Helios will be installed over the Easter period, which helps us reflect on light and the life-giving light of the resurrection, bringing new life.
We look forward to welcoming everyone to experience this breathtaking artwork in our magnificent space.”
