The Florrie Launches Fundraising Appeal to Keep Community Hub Classes Free
For nearly a decade, The Florrie has been at the heart of the Dingle and wider Liverpool community, running free Community Hub activities that combat social isolation, boost wellbeing and bring people together. But now, with rising costs and increased demand, The Florrie faces its biggest challenge yet.
The charity has launched a £25,000 fundraising appeal to secure the future of its 19 weekly classes, which cover everything from art and genealogy to Tai Chi, gardening, autism support, history groups and music. Tens of thousands of people have benefited from the programme since it began.

The hub was spearheaded by Timo Tierney, who began volunteering at The Florrie in 2016 after years in Liverpool bands The Maybes and The Tea Street Band. His first guitar class quickly grew into a full programme of inclusive activities that remain free for everyone to attend.
Timo explained: “When I started here almost ten years ago, the aim was to help combat social isolation. Now we’re back in full flow with activities that improve people’s lives in meaningful ways. The Florrie brings people together from all different ages and backgrounds. But we’re facing huge challenges, and we need to raise money and get further sponsorship by Christmas if we’re to keep these classes free.”

The Florrie is planning a series of events to support the appeal, including the return of the Big Guitar-In on Thursday 11 December, alongside recent fundraisers such as the Celebration of Southend Football and The Magical History Tour family day.
Donations and sponsorships are vital to ensure The Florrie can continue its much-loved work. To donate or find out more about sponsoring a Community Hub activity, visit theflorrie.org/support-us/donate or contact community@theflorrie.org.
