Autumn Skincare & Nail Trends: Expert Tips from Emma McAllister
Emma McAllister, owner of the popular EM Hair & Beauty Clinic, which is loved by many local celebrities and has a huge customer base, talks to Liverpool Noise about Autumn skincare & trends.
So Emma, how long have you worked in the beauty industry and what do you specialise in?
Emma: I have been in the industry for 28 years. I specialise in beauty, nails, laser hair and tattoo removal, aesthetics, skincare and semi permanent make up. I’m fully qualified in all aspects of beauty, skincare, nails and aesthetics and am also a qualified teacher in these areas having completed multiple degrees and more recently a masters in aesthetics.
What have been your most popular treatments so far this year?
Emma: Semi permanent make up, microneedling and facials, PRP (platelet rich plasma) treatments, laser hair removal & Gel manicures/ pedicures with nail art.
With the recent ban on Gel nail polishes containing toxic ingredients like TPO how will this affect you/your industry moving forward?
Emma: Thankfully because I use high quality products produced by reputable nail company’s they don’t contain any of the nasties like TPO and hema. But for others or new nail technicians it might cause a problem as the costs of the safer products is extremely high and in order to offer Gel manicures and gel pedicures you need an extensive product offering so they will incur a high initial outlay cost, but customers should want to be using quality products on their nails so hopefully there won’t be too much of an issue for anyone in the Industry.
Talking of nails, we all love a bit of nail art…what are the autumn colours and designs we need to have on our nails?
Emma: Well polka dot nail art is very popular for this autumn ,colour wise cherry, burnt oranges and reds, more brown earthy neutral tones too will be making an appearance too.
Can you also give us some advice on how to keep our face/skin looking fresh and glowing through the autumn and winter?
Emma: Get plenty of sleep, drink lots of water, treat yourself to regular facials, they don’t need to be in a salon, you can do them at home, creating exfoliating scrubs and masks with natural ingredients. Using a thicker moisturiser, night creams, and by using a daytime moisturiser with spf in it adding in vitamin C to your routine. Also collagen and LED therapy really help your skin too.
What’s your favourite thing about working in the beauty industry?
Emma: I love making people feel relaxed and good about themselves. You can come in feeling stressed or unhappy with how your skin or nails are looking or just need uplifting then after your appointment its a newfound love for yourself and extra confidence which we all love and need from time to time!
