New Orleans Flavour Hits Liverpool: SuSu’s Brings Deep South Soul Food to Victoria Street

A slice of the Deep South has arrived in Liverpool city centre with the launch of SuSu’s New Orleans Kitchen, now open inside Molly Malone’s on Victoria Street.

Founded by American friends Reggie Pulliam and Adam Williams, SuSu’s is serving up a menu of bold and soulful Southern favourites — with dishes like Shrimp Bread, Gumbo, Jambalaya, PoBoys and Baked Oysters making their Liverpool debut.

The kitchen officially opened its doors on Monday 9 June, and early feedback from locals who sampled the food has been nothing short of “unreal,” according to the founders.

So how did two Americans end up bringing Cajun and Creole classics to Merseyside? The journey began with Reggie’s lifelong obsession with Everton FC. After falling in love with the club thanks to U.S. players like Joe-Max Moore and Tim Howard, Reggie made regular pilgrimages from Alabama to Goodison Park. Eventually, he and his wife Cassie became frequent visitors to Liverpool — staying at the Titanic Hotel and soaking up the city’s warmth and charm.

From chance meetings with Everton players, a viral fan photo, and conversations with locals who happened to know a lot about Southern cuisine, the idea for SuSu’s began to take root. “When my wife met a Liverpool taxi driver in Florida, we took it as a sign. The universe had told us enough,” said Reggie.

SuSu’s is named in honour of Reggie’s mother and powered by the pair’s passion for authentic food and ethical business. Adam, who has decades of hospitality experience, has embraced Liverpool with equal enthusiasm — even if he cheekily supports Liverpool FC just to wind Reggie up.

But this isn’t just another themed kitchen. SuSu’s is committed to supporting the local community. Ingredients are sourced from Merseyside suppliers, and staff are paid a real living wage with a share in the restaurant’s profits — a rare and admirable model in the hospitality industry.

“We’re excited to bring something truly different to Liverpool,” said Adam. “But it’s not just about the food — it’s about giving back to the people and creating a space that feels like home for everyone.”

SuSu’s New Orleans Kitchen is now open 7 days a week for dine-in and takeaway.
