Everton Fans Urged To Plan Ahead For Historic Hill Dickinson Stadium Sell-Out Against AS Roma

Everton fans are being urged to plan their journeys in advance as the Blues prepare for a landmark moment — the first-ever sell-out fixture at the new Hill Dickinson Stadium.

More than 52,000 supporters are expected to attend the final test event on Saturday 9 August, when the Toffees take on Italian giants Roma in a special double-header. Kick-off for the main fixture is at 3pm, followed by a Legends clash between the two clubs at 5:15pm.

With a full house expected, a major travel plan is in place to help fans arrive and depart safely and smoothly — including enhanced shuttle bus services, a boosted Merseyrail timetable, and even direct post-match ferry sailings across the Mersey.

The travel coordination is being overseen by a Transport Working Group led by Everton, in collaboration with Liverpool City Council, Merseyrail, local bus operators, Merseytravel and Merseyside Police. The plan aims to provide a safe, accessible and sustainable matchday experience while minimising disruption to nearby residents.

Fans are being encouraged to Plan Ahead and Travel Smart by checking live service updates with transport operators, exploring park-and-ride options, and considering walking or cycling if coming from the city centre.

Key transport measures include:

  • Shuttle buses to and from Liverpool City Centre, Bootle and Kirkby
  • Increased Merseyrail services on four key lines, with nearby stations at Sandhills, Bank Hall and Moorfields
  • Special direct ferry sailings between Pier Head and Seacombe
  • Walking and cycling routes for those travelling from the city centre

Speaking ahead of the event, Cllr Steve Foulkes, Chair of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Transport Committee, said: “The new stadium is a massive moment – not just for the club, but for the regeneration of North Liverpool. We’re doing everything we can to make sure matchdays are smooth, safe and enjoyable for all.”

Colin Chong, Chief Real Estate and Regeneration Officer at Everton FC, added: “This third and final test event marks a huge milestone. Thanks to fan feedback, we’ve enhanced the transport offer even further – and we’re asking Evertonians to play their part by planning ahead.”

Fans can find full travel guidance and updates on the Merseytravel website and will receive specific matchday information directly from the Club ahead of the fixture.
