Arts Bar Hope Street To Host Unique, Interactive Exhibition, ‘Invert’

Arts Bar Hope Street has held a number of special visual arts events this year. However, their latest exhibition, Invert, is like nothing else they’ve shown or even seen before and they’re sure its, “hidden surprises” are going to leave a lasting impression on anyone who visits.

North West based artist, Krystan-Grace started painting at twenty two, initially as a way to connect to her late father who was also an artist. She found the creative process to be meditative and became particularly fascinated by tonal elements, especially shadow. Over time Krystan-Grace developed a distinctive style using a predominantly monochrome pallet, allowing her to focus on light and shadow.

Krystan-Grace’s paintings are carefully observed life studies that capture stunning detail but somehow feel peaceful and intimate. Perhaps that is because of the relationship the artist herself has with her work, as she explains, “Finding a connection to our emotions is something I’m incredibly passionate about and personally, I make art to convey emotions I don’t verbalise”.

Whilst Krystan-Grace says she continues to, “connect to and address emotions through art”, she has also developed a very unique way for others to view it. Using a custom-made filter that is available via her Instagram, each of Krystan-Grace’s paintings in this exhibition can be viewed in two ways. Firstly, as the work appears to the human eye and secondly, through the filter which inverts the painting, turning dark to light and vice versa.

As beautiful as the original paintings are, the impact of seeing the hidden depth to the work never ceases to amaze and whilst there are some examples of inverted images on Krystan-Grace’s Instagram page, nothing beats seeing the secondary image being revealed in person. This is why visual arts curator, Laura McCann is so excited to be bringing Krystan-Grace’s work to Arts Bar Hope Street, as she explained, “When I first met Krystan-Grace I was excited by the prospect of showing her work but I don’t think anything prepares you for seeing the image change right before your eyes“.

Invert opens at Arts Bar Hope Street on the evening of Thursday 6 July (5pm-8pm) and runs Friday 7, Saturday 8 & Sunday 9 July, 12-6pm and entry is free.
