Review: The Spare Rib Galentine’s Burlesque Extravaganza
Something with a little spice. Tonight, I witnessed a very empowering and powerful evening of burlesque. I was warned before the evening starts that once you go to one show you will be hooked and I have to completely agree. I will definitely be going back.
The evening was compared by the fun and fantastic Tilly Mint; who is co-producer of The Spare Rib Burlesque & Cabaret. Tilly kept the evening moving and had a wonderfully down to earth yet cheeky sense of humour and way with her audience engagement.
Each of her bold and beautiful acts were introduced with their own sensual and seductive audio description. Each performer empowered the audience to love the body your in, be proud of who you are and show that everyone has that sexy side to them, however hidden they may feel it is. I walked away from this show immensely proud and in awe of every single performer. If only I had the confidence which they exude. However, that’s when you think, why shouldn’t I?
The acts included the sexy and sultry Daisy Devell. Mandazonian, who really shows you how to ‘dance when no one’s watching’ or even if they are! Hula hoop hypnosis with the talented Evie White. The captivating Madame Fatale had everyone blushing. Misty Mina showed that you can do sexy without music. And finally, the provocative REIx who gives sexy, sass and attitude all in one. An absolutely amazing performance from all involved and one that has ignited an interest and hopefully a new found confidence.
With toe tapping music old and new it was a show that you couldn’t help but woop and cheer along too! Get your tipping money as you walk in and fully immerse yourself in the atmosphere.
The Spare Rib Burlesque and Cabaret offer burlesque courses, classes and workshops. They are a safe and inclusive space for all. Check out their social media to see a little more of what they are about or even catch their upcoming shows.
It was wonderful to be in such an inclusive environment and the show was also fully interpreted with two BSL interpreters.
The company are very supportive of each other and cheer along each individual success. It was nice to see that they have such a good connection and the performers I spoke with speak so highly of the confidence and belonging this group has given them.
