Royal Albert Dock Celebrates 35 Years of Liverpool Nightlife with Special Projection

Liverpool’s legendary clubbing history is being celebrated on the waterfront with a special projection bringing 35 years of the city’s nightlife, music and culture to Royal Albert Dock.

Running until 2 October, the façade of the Maritime Museum will be illuminated each evening from 8pm to 10pm, showcasing photography from In Clubland: 35 Summers of Love, an upcoming book by Liverpool photographer Mark McNulty.

The projection offers an exclusive preview of images documenting the people, venues and moments that have helped shape Liverpool’s clubbing culture from the 1980s onwards.

Best viewed from Royal Albert Dock’s inner quay, the display transforms one of the waterfront’s most recognisable buildings into a celebration of the city after dark.

Visitors can combine the experience with an evening at the dock, with restaurants and bars including Rosa’s Thai, Rudy’s Pizza and Lunyalita offering views across the water towards the projection.

There’s also a soundtrack to accompany the photographs. Until 26 September, visitors can pick up headphones from The One O’Clock Gun for a free silent disco-style experience featuring a playlist specially curated by Mark McNulty.

Pairing McNulty’s photography with music connected to Liverpool’s nightlife, the experience brings some of the energy and atmosphere of the city’s club scene to the waterfront.

The projection forms a fitting preview of In Clubland: 35 Summers of Love, capturing more than three decades of Liverpool nightlife and the people and places that made it what it was.

The Royal Albert Dock Liverpool nightlife projection runs daily from 8pm–10pm until 2 October, with the free headphone experience available at The One O’Clock Gun until 26 September.
