The Picnic Club Brings Immersive Indoor Picnic Experience to Liverpool’s St George’s Hall

A brand new immersive event is set to transform one of Liverpool’s most iconic landmarks into an unforgettable indoor picnic experience next Valentine’s weekend.

The Picnic Club, created by Formby entrepreneur Tony Roberts, will launch at St George’s Hall on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 February 2027, promising an evening that combines projection mapping, live music, gourmet food and themed cocktails in what organisers believe is the UK’s first immersive indoor picnic experience.

Created in response to what Tony felt had become increasingly repetitive nights out, The Picnic Club aims to offer something completely different.

“After feeling that nights out had become another meal, another bar and another evening that felt much the same, I wanted to create an experience that people simply couldn’t experience anywhere else,” he said.

Set within the magnificent North Hall of St George’s Hall, guests will be surrounded by spectacular projection-mapped skies that evolve throughout the evening. The immersive visuals will transport visitors through dramatic thunderstorms, clear blue skies, glowing sunsets, star-filled nights and a breathtaking Northern Lights finale.

But the changing scenery is only part of the experience. Every aspect of The Picnic Club has been carefully choreographed to evolve alongside the visuals. The soundtrack begins with elegant live classical performances before building towards an uplifting electronic DJ set as the Northern Lights illuminate the hall.

The food and drink have also been designed to tell part of the story. Guests will receive a gourmet picnic basket featuring different courses to enjoy throughout the evening, while a specially curated cocktail menu has been inspired by each stage of the sky, allowing visitors to match their drinks to the changing atmosphere.

Rather than simply combining impressive visuals with food and entertainment, every creative element has been designed to work together, creating one continuous journey from beginning to end.

The result is an experience that sits somewhere between immersive theatre, live music, fine dining and a spectacular light show.

Although the launch takes place over Valentine’s weekend, The Picnic Club has been designed for much more than romantic date nights. Couples, friends, families and anyone looking for a memorable evening out are invited to experience the event together.

Speaking about bringing the concept to Liverpool, Tony said: “As someone from Formby, I’m incredibly proud to be bringing this concept to Liverpool and hope The Picnic Club becomes an annual event that people look forward to for years to come.”
