Home And Away Workshops Announce Exhibition At St George’s Hall Exploring Belonging And Displacement
A new exhibition exploring themes of belonging, migration and memory is set to open at St George’s Hall this May, as Liverpool-based collective Home and Away Workshops unveil their latest body of work.
Running from 6–31 May 2026, Home and Away brings together a diverse group of artists whose practices are shaped by experiences of displacement, transition and identity. The exhibition launches with a free preview event on 6 May from 5–7pm, with entry available via RSVP ticket.
Developed through a series of co-creation workshops supported by Arts Council England, the project has taken shape both online and within St George’s Hall itself. The resulting exhibition showcases mixed-media work by artists from across the globe, including contributors with connections to the Philippines, Argentina, Ireland, Poland, Venezuela and Barcelona.

Participating artists include Karema Munassar, Dina Roncevic, Annabel Petit Alvarado, Sandra Mutukwa, Bilqis Shakil, Mai Sanchez, Mariana Sequera, Ariana Basciani and Elizabeth Longwill, each offering a personal perspective on the idea of “home”.
Over recent months, the workshops have provided a space for shared reflection and creative exchange. Participants have explored personal stories, memories and questions around what home means—whether rooted in place, shaped by movement, or continually evolving over time. The collaborative structure encouraged artists not only to create work but also to lead sessions, fostering a sense of collective learning and support.
The exhibition itself presents “home” not as a fixed location, but as something embodied, remembered and reimagined. Works connect themes of identity to the body, environment and places left behind, inviting visitors to consider how personal histories intersect with wider social and political narratives.
Set within one of Liverpool’s most historic cultural landmarks, the exhibition also creates a dialogue between individual experience and public space. St George’s Hall, a Grade I listed building at the heart of the city, regularly hosts exhibitions and events that reflect Liverpool’s diverse cultural identity.
Home and Away is free to attend and open to all ages throughout its run.
