International Women’s Day brings powerful female shows to Unity Theatre
As we approach International Women’s Day this Sunday 8 March, Unity Theatre are championing leading female voices in radical theatre throughout the month. Take a look…
Where Have All Our Women Gone?

Hot on the heels of its sell out run at The Playhouse, on Friday 13 March Liverpool-founded Sort Sol Theatre company present their critically acclaimed play, Where Have All Our Women Gone? Returning for just one night, Elizabeth Huskisson reprises the role of Everywoman in her “fast paced and ferocious” one woman play.
A state of the nation “political commentary” that interrogates the epidemic of male violence against women and girls; “Huskisson’s play deserves to be embedded in the cultural membrane.” Using satire, sincerity and the surreal, this play explores one of the most urgent issues of our time. Defying the boundaries of theatre, this is a work of activism, a riot and a darkly comic examination of the Met, misogyny and men.

Incarcerating Eve

Just a few days later – Wednesday 18 March – sees the Liverpool debut of Incarcerating Eve by Oxford’s Mandala Theatre Company.
Exploring the impacts of female incarceration & disempowerment upon society throughout history to the present day, the show reveals ‘Herstory’ – the wisdom lost to generations – unearthing the truth instinctively understood by indigenous communities and anthropologists: that in the earliest of times, the divine feminine and masculine energies were revered equally and in balance. By connecting this knowledge with Eve’s stories of today, the play asks what needs to change for us to build a world that once again respects Mother Earth and chooses love and kindness over violence and war.
International Women’s Month, celebrated throughout March 2026, honors the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women worldwide, while highlighting the ongoing fight for gender equality. It includes International Women’s Day on 8 March, with themes often focusing on action, equity, and accelerating progress for women.
