Adam James Johnson Marks His Arrival with Debut Single Quarter Through Life
“I’m a quarter through life and what have I done with it?” sings Merseyside newcomer Adam James Johnson on his debut single Quarter Through Life. It’s an honest, searching line that sets the tone for a track built on raw self-reflection, driven by alt-pop melodies, dynamic vocals, and crisp, aggressive production. Punchy and urgent, the single races forward before hitting an irresistible, addictive chorus.
For Johnson, music has always been about “honesty and clarity.” He began busking as a teenager before working his way into clubs and venues across the UK, developing his craft through different bands and projects. Along the way, he built up a catalogue of songs that collide clean, catchy pop with bold, unapologetic energy.
Influenced by the likes of Orla Gartland and Jacob Collier, while also tipping his hat to icons such as Queen and David Bowie, Johnson has spent the past year recording at Liverpool’s renowned Motor Museum studio. The result is Quarter Through Life, the first chapter of his solo journey — and just the beginning of what’s to come.
With more releases lined up, Adam James Johnson is ready to make his mark on the alt-pop scene — starting with the universal question at the heart of his debut: what are we doing with the time we have?
