The Atom Improv Brings Grassroots Comedy to Liverpool with New Shows and Workshops

Liverpool’s alternative comedy scene is getting a boost this autumn thanks to The Atom Improv, a fully independent grassroots company dedicated to improvised performance and comedy.

Founded and run by Al Donohoe, The Atom Improv has been carving out a space for experimental, offbeat comedy in the city, with shows and workshops that attract a younger audience (18–30) but are open to all who love a good laugh.

The group is hosting improv workshops, with a longer five-week course launching in October for anyone keen to sharpen their comedy skills or try something new.

Alongside the training, The Atom Improv has lined up a full week of shows designed to showcase the breadth of improv comedy:

  • Harold Night – Three brand-new Liverpool teams perform the American-style long form improv set.
  • Stupid and Friends – An anarchic show featuring three comedy duos, mixing quickfire improv with surrealist humour. Described as “improv meets Bottom meets Reeves and Mortimer.”
  • House Guests – A lively mix of improvisers from across the UK, joined by a special guest monologist. This time it’s TV actor Phill McGuinness, best known for G’Wed and The Responder, who’ll share a true story to inspire the show.

Tickets are just £3 for students and £6 for everyone else, with free shots handed out on the door (first come, first served).

Tickets are available now via TicketSource.
