Liverpool FC In Focus: A Season To Cherish For The Red Half of The City
Now the dust has settled and the confetti has been swept away, it’s time to look back at what was an incredible and unique season for Liverpool FC.
When Arne Slot took the reins from the much loved Jurgen Klopp at the end of the 2023/2024 season, few people (myself included) could have imagined just how successful the club was going to be in the upcoming season. Despite Klopp leaving the club with a strong, well gelled team, surely no new manager could come in and achieve the dream of once again winning the coveted Premier League title..could they?
Enter Slot. Fresh from his tenure as manager of Dutch side Feyenoord, Arne Slot quickly established his own brand of dominant, fast paced football which saw Liverpool steadily and surely climb the table throughout the season before officially becoming Premier League Champions in April and joining a very exclusive club of managers who won the league in their first season. Whilst people were questioning whether Slot would still be in his job by Christmas, he was quietly chipping away at his opponents and proving why he and his team are some of the most successful players and managers in the world.
Salient Squad Performances
But it wasn’t all down to Slot. Liverpool’s impressive squad of players, with noticeable performances throughout the season from Mo Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and Cody Gakpo (to name a few) meant that we were proving on the pitch why we deserved to be champions. Despite being in his early 30s, Mohamed Salah proved once again why he remains the heartbeat of Liverpool FC. In a season defined by transition and triumph, Salah was the club’s talisman, delivering one of his most productive campaigns yet under new manager Arne Slot. He finished the Premier League season with 29 goals and 18 assists, topping both charts for Liverpool and placing him among the league’s elite performers. Across all competitions, he racked up 52 goal involvements, underlining his consistency and relentless impact in both scoring and creating.
Salah was instrumental in Liverpool’s title-winning campaign, often stepping up in tight games with goals, key passes, or moments of individual brilliance. His fitness, leadership, and ability to adapt to Slot’s tactical tweaks were also vital. While Slot implemented a slightly more fluid system than Klopp’s, Salah thrived—drifting into central spaces more often and linking up with Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo to devastating effect.
Welcomes and farewells
The summer following the title win has seen intense transfer activity aimed at ensuring longevity at the top.
One of the most exciting arrivals confirmed is Jeremie Frimpong, a dynamic attacking full-back replacing Trent Alexander-Arnold who after 20 years at his boyhood club, has moved on to pastures new at Real Madrid. Furthermore, our faithful and often life saving number 2 goalie, Caoimhín Kelleher has joined Brentford.
With plenty of time still to go in this transfer window, there is still a lot to play for.
Back on our Perch and a city united
After the Premier League victory in 2020 which resulted in no public celebrations due to the ongoing Covid pandemic, our victory this year was even sweeter. After 35 years without a proper league winning celebration, the city was ready to come together in the streets to mark this momentous occasion.
When we won our sixth Champions League trophy back in 2019, 750,000 people descended on the city for the parade. The streets were awash with red and white, flares and fireworks lit up the sky for hours and people sang, danced and waited with eager anticipation to catch a glimpse of the team on their victory parade. Fast forward to May 2025 and this time, the anticipation was palpable. Monday 26th May should have been a day of pure celebration and joy. Despite the horrendous weather, over a million people lined the streets to see our team parade their much deserved Premier League trophy throughout our city.
As the celebrations came to a close, a shocking and tragic event unfolded in the city centre in which several people were injured. What followed this event was a show of true class from the city and its people. As it has done throughout history when facing adversity, Liverpool came together in this dark moment and provided support and care for all those affected and involved in the incident.
For as long as most of us can remember, the city of Liverpool has been a beacon of strength, justice and hope. Issues that transcend football rivalries unite this city of red and blue and this was no different. Since that day, a fund has been set up to support those affected by the incident which has already raised over £30,000, proving that our city is one of the best in the world thanks to one unwavering element…its people.
More Than a Football Club
This season will be remembered not just for trophies, goals, and a new managerial era — but for the unity of the club, its fans, and the community. In moments of triumph and tragedy, Liverpool has always stood tall. And in 2025, the message was clear:
We’re back on our perch — and we did it together.
