Warrington’s Lunar New Year Celebrations Return for 2025
Warrington’s Lunar New Year celebrations will return on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 February, bringing culture, colour and entertainment to the town centre.
Marking the Year of the Snake, the event has quickly become a highlight of Warrington’s annual calendar and will once again offer a weekend filled with performances, workshops and activities for all ages.
Building on the success of last year’s celebrations, this year’s programme will showcase a mix of traditional and modern performances, featuring Liverpool’s Hung Gar Kung Fu School presenting their lion and dragon dance, alongside a high energy martial arts demonstration.
Visitors can expect live music, K-Pop dance displays and an eye-catching performance from Movema Dance Company featuring the Feng Huang bird. Activities such as calligraphy workshops, face painting, QiGong sessions and arts and crafts will take place across Golden Square, Time Square, Warrington Market, Warrington Museum and Art Gallery and Central Library.
On the Saturday, Warrington Museum and Art Gallery and Central Library will host a family activity day from 11am to 2pm, where visitors can enjoy crafts, trails and refreshments in a relaxed setting.
Cllr Tony Higgins from Warrington Borough Council, said: “The Lunar New Year celebrations are a wonderful opportunity for Warrington to come together and enjoy this cultural tradition. It’s fantastic to see the event growing year on year and we’re proud to work with our partners to bring it to life for the local community and visitors.”
The celebrations continue to grow each year, bringing together residents, families and visitors to share in the traditions and experiences that make Lunar New Year such a unique cultural event. From live performances to family-friendly workshops, the festival offers a welcoming space for people of all ages to come together and enjoy something new.
The event will be delivered through a partnership with Warrington Borough Council, Warrington BID, Golden Square Shopping Centre and Warrington Market.
Amy Dawber, Project Manager for Warrington BID, said: “Lunar New Year has become a key event in Warrington’s calendar, offering something for everyone and celebrating the town’s diversity. This year’s programme will build on last year’s success and we look forward to welcoming visitors for a weekend of culture and connection.”
Supported by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the festival aims to bring communities together to celebrate Warrington’s growing cultural diversity while providing an opportunity for residents and visitors to experience the traditions of Lunar New Year.
