In Conversation – Silver Tongued Rascals
Silver Tongued Rascals are back on the road, and this time it’s bigger and bolder than ever. After the triumph of their debut headline tour and an electrifying festival season, the Leeds-based electronic outfit are set to take their sound to new heights with a second headline tour. With sold-out shows at iconic venues like The Victoria in Dalston and a growing fanbase singing along to every word, the band is riding a wave of momentum that matches their unrelenting energy.
We caught up with the band to talk about the journey so far, their upcoming EP Once Upon My Mind, and what it means to create music that resonates deeply with listeners while keeping the dancefloor alive. From sharing stages with legends like Darren Emerson to curating a tour lineup featuring rising talents Midnite Pharmacy and Burgz, the Rascals are proving they’re a force to be reckoned with. Here’s what they had to say.
Liverpool Noise: Your second headline tour is underway! How does it feel hitting the road again after such a successful first tour and festival season?
Silver Tongued Rascals: It’s been fully mint! This tour has seen a significant rise in so many ways it’s been incredible to witness really! More and more folk knowing our tunes and filling out venues such as The Victoria in Dalston, London has blown us away but also repays the reward of graft and ability we have as it fuels that hunger to keep on delivering n smashing it making these strides to become as huge as we sense we can be really!
Liverpool Noise: Your upcoming EP, Once Upon My Mind, delves into topics like depression, homelessness, and overcoming struggles. What inspired you to tackle these themes, and how do you balance such intense subjects with the energy of your music?
Silver Tongued Rascals: Yeah its a deep one that as we tend to chat about elements experienced across society, to be a sound-piece to all spectrums that I feel I can articulate and describe from a position of empathy and experience and also offer some solace in vulnerability that helps empower those who may be going through tough shit and that was the driving force and inspiration behind this upcoming EP for sure. The beats still have life in them with our stamp on them and that allows for our energy to still be captured and stand out in these next series of tunes. Its certainly a marker in our ability which again will help define us onto a new level up.
Liverpool Noise: Are there any specific messages or feelings you hope listeners will take away from Once Upon My Mind?
Silver Tongued Rascals: It’s important for us to be a backbone in that sense that people can gain perspective and strength to overcome situations that feel unbearable and discover they have that inner strength and resolve overcome them, to build that self-belief and then also keep that spirit and sentiment to uplift those around them like a positive ripple effect empowering society. I feel people are so significant – every single last one of us as we impact people in our own pockets every moment of every day and if that can be realised and then utilised to impact those daily interactions positively then just imagine what an incredibly happier place this Planet could, should and can be…
Liverpool Noise: How did the opportunity to support Darren Emerson of Underworld at The Golden Lion come about? What was that experience like for you as a band?
Silver Tongued Rascals: This was surreal as being an electronic outfit ourselves, to have that accolade of being on a bill with such a legend of the scene was amazing. That’s shout out to Ciaran and the ‘Say What?’ family for booking us and believing in our music to land with their loyal crowd which they were proved right n we smashed it! That coming so soon after our debut festival appearance at Beat Herder also allowed for our momentum to keep building with significant gigs which is class for us. And the Golden Lion is one if them places that is so majestic, it has this magic about it man where the fever of euphoria swirls around striking everyone on that dance-floor into dancing delirium!
Liverpool Noise: Tell us about the artists joining you on this tour—Midnite Pharmacy and Burgz. How did these collaborations come about, and what do they bring to the live experience?
Silver Tongued Rascals: My support acts are incredible. Midnite Pharmacy are a mix of Depeche Mode n Maribou State meets Bicep, such sumptuous electronic grooves builds n drops alongside Si Martins haunting yet invitingly warm vocals – they’re so so good, every tune slaps! And then Burgz is such a witty West Yorkshire hip hop MC who loves the art-form and is obsessed with it. His bars reflect a level of love and study of his craft and his stories paint a great picture of his life and Yorkshire that still relate beyond. Two proper mint acts to get the crowd revved up for the time we take to the stage.
