The Double Nines Turn Heads With Their Debut Anthemic Single, ‘Big Shot’

Liverpool’s The Double Nines are attempting to establish themselves within the city’s indie/rock scene as they set to release their debut single Big Shot on 25 September.

With members hailing from the United States, South America, the Middle East, and the UK, their music is a rich tapestry of global influences, and such influences are reflected in Big Shot.

The track is a unique blend of 1930s swing and modern indie/alternative pop rock, creating a sound that is both nostalgic and fresh. Drawing inspiration from the early baroque alternative rock of Panic! At the Disco and the big band jazz sounds of Benny Goodman, the band has crafted a high energy track that is simultaneously infectious and charming. The addition of funky riffs reminiscent of The 1975 adds a contemporary edge to the classic sound.

On the surface, although the single appears to be the perfect feel-good song to close out summer to, it does however come with an important underlying message; aiming to inspire listeners to embrace their individuality and pursue their passions without feeling the pressure to fit a specific mould, and that success and happiness can be achieved without conforming to traditional expectations.

Big Shot is set to be an empowering anthem that challenges societal norms and holds a mirror up to an ever-toxic and exploitative music industry. With its uplifting message and irresistible melody, the single is guaranteed to become a fan favourite and a playlist staple.

The talented minds that are behind Big Shot and make up Liverpool’s latest band-on-the-rise are: Anthony Barrios (lead vocals), Sam Durkin (guitar), Matt Mayz (guitar), Charlie Holden (bass), Louis Gallardo (keys), and Tyler Austin (drums).

Their sound is a bold fusion of genres, stemming from the diverse cultures of The Double Nine’s members, blending the dreamlike synthscapes of The 1975 with the infectious hooks of The Killers, all underscored by the introspective undertones of The Smiths. This unique sonic palette serves as the backdrop for their candid and poetic lyricism, inviting listeners into a world of raw emotion and unfiltered storytelling.

The Double Nines are more than just musicians; they are performers. Their live shows are electrifying, characterised by high energy and theatrical flair. Having already played several venues in Liverpool and Manchester earlier this spring, they have a knack for creating an immersive experience, drawing audiences in and leaving them wanting more. With each performance, they forge a connection with their fans, building a loyal and dedicated following. They even played a fundraiser on Livepool’s Bold Street to aid their friend’s top surgery, establishing themselves as the perfect LGBTQ+ community allies.

What remains of 2024 and beyond will only see The Double Nines continue to evolve and push the boundaries of their sound, one thing remains constant: their unwavering commitment to creating music that resonates deeply with their listeners.
