Cocktails on the Colonnades: An evening at the Titanic Hotel
The Titanic hotel has quickly become one of the most sought-after hotels in Liverpool. Paying tribute to Liverpool’s amazing docks and Maritime history, the venue is perfect for a romantic getaway, a wedding or other celebration as well as simply just a drink on the terrace and meal in their fantastic restaurant. Dark wood paired with bare brick, contemporary furnishings and enough rum you can shake a stick at, this is the favourite hang out of many, Scouser or otherwise – not to mention their state of the art spa area where you can while away an afternoon relaxing with a Prosecco in hand. Just perfect.
We headed down to the cocktail masterclass on a sunny Thursday evening and were lucky enough to be able to take advantage of the fantastic terrace they have, overlooking the water. Arriving to fabulously curated pink cocktails (complete with edible flower) and large glasses of white wine, it was the perfect welcome after a long old day at work. The terrace area is just in front of the Stanley Grill, the hotel’s stylish restaurant, and we were soon sat down to taste the most recent offerings from the fabulously put together menu, cooked in the stylish open kitchen at the back of the eatery.
Brought out on small plates was a delicious mini fish n chips complete with a flavourful pea puree, perfectly cooked lamb on top of a herby tabbouleh, mini pizzas covered in hot, melted cheese and salty serrano ham and sweet, tangy onion bhajis, crisped to perfection. Sharing delicious small plates whilst sipping free-flowing wine as the sun set over the water, it was easy to see how this is the perfect place for an evening meal. The small plates were creative and really well put together but still adhered to the wonders of traditional British cuisine, working perfectly with the overall ambience of the restaurant and hotel itself.
Following the food was an amazing cocktail demonstration from one of the Titanic’s bar staff. The Titanic prides themselves on the fantastic array of rum that their bar has to offer from Cuba through to Guyana and Barbados. The menu also showcases creative cocktails based on some of the classics such as  Daiquiris and Pornstar Martinis. We were shown the level of spirit and mixer needed to recreate some of the Titanic’s most popular summer choices including fruity strawberry and lemon based tipples. Guests were then put to the test to see if they could remember how the drinks were made and once finished, they were passed around for us to sample. The cocktails were simply delicious and if anything, a little too easy to drink. We are definitely excited to return to try some of  their other fantastic choices.
As the evening drew to a close and everyone had eaten and drank like absolute kings, we were given a certificate to commemorate our best efforts at creating Titanic cocktails and prepared to go home. There is something super special about the atmosphere at the Titanic hotel, whether you’re staying the night in one of their rooms or even just enjoying a cocktail on the terrace. The building is steeped in culture, telling the story of Liverpool’s wonderful history but with a little added luxury for good measure. We can’t wait to return.
