The Brink Supports Local Community During Recovery Month As Part of Sixth Birthday Celebrations
Liverpool’s only and the UK’s first dry bar is encouraging the community to get involved in Recovery Month this September.
The Brink has teamed up with Life Rooms (Mersey Care NHS) to introduce a ‘Recovery College’ programme tackling subjects such as recovery principles, assertiveness, self-esteem and feeling better through comedy.
Exclusively throughout the month of September, the Brink are also hosting ‘Nutritional Workshops’ which offer informative and practical advice on how to improve health, vitality and confidence through a healthy diet.
General Manager of The Brink Carl Bell said: “With September being Recovery Month, it seemed only fitting that we launch our ‘Recovery College’ initiative to help those who are seeking a healthier way of life and an increased awareness of general wellbeing. The 16-week programme is free to attend and will run every Tuesday from September 5. Our nutritional workshops also offer an insight into how to lift your mood, balance your hormones and improve indigestion problems by adopting a healthy diet.
“The Brink is committed to offering an alcohol-free environment all year round, with a number of support options available for those who may be struggling with alcohol and addiction, so Recovery Month is a fantastic opportunity to highlight the work our team is doing each and every day, and we hope that the initiative encourages those who may be yet to seek help to do so.”
Since opening its doors in 2011, The Brink has operated as a social enterprise, with profits going back into the community to fund support for those who have suffered through alcoholism and addiction with 75% of employees and volunteers in recovery themselves.
Carl added: “It’s certainly been an exciting few weeks for The Brink as we have been proud to have been involved in the first ever Healthy Souls Festival, which attracted health seekers of all kinds from across the North West. Our busy events offering is set to continue during Recovery Month with activities such as ‘Courage to Change’ Meditative Art, Recovery Gardening Club, Addiction Family Support Group and Tai Chi. To top off an eventful September, The Brink’s sixth birthday celebration will take place on September 30 where guests can enjoy live music, dancing and food.
“We are incredibly proud to also be involved in this year’s ‘Recovery Walk’, an annual event which originated here in Liverpool. Action on Addiction will be facilitating transport for its recovery clients on September 9, from the Brink to Blackpool, where the Walk will take place this year.”
Nutritional Workshops will be held on September 7, 14 and 21.
