Liverpool Is Getting It’s First Ever Food Hall In The Baltic Triangle
The Baltic Market will open in Cain’s Brewery warehouse this summer.
What have Lisbon, Amsterdam and soon to be Liverpool all got in common? They’ve all got a food hall. From the guys behind Independent Liverpool and street food legend Tim Haggis, chief hot dog perfectionist behind the beloved Meet Frank – a true foodie revolution is upon us in the shape of a 4 days a week food hall.
Its a dream come true for foodies everywhere. Baltic Market will be opening in the summer of 2017 and it can’t come soon enough. They will be taking over an empty shell in the iconic Cains Brewery in The Baltic Triangle and transforming it into something special. The Baltic Triangle is the area on everybody’s lips, especially after recently being voted the coolest place to live in the UK by the Sunday Times. This makes it the perfect location for Liverpool’s first ever food hall which will only add to the applause.
The building work has commenced but it is expected to open late June. Independent Liverpool started organising food and drink festivals in The Baltic Triangle almost two years ago and has seen tens of thousands of people attend them, all in the name of good times and supporting independents. The food hall plans to be a permanent version of this, open Thursday-Sunday and it’ll be completely free to enter. There will be up to 10 of the city’s best independent restaurateurs – both established and brand new, and the line-up will change frequently, giving punters so many reasons to return. This plans to be a true foodie independent Liverpool revolution.
It’s not just about the food, either. Independent Liverpool will be working with the best shakers and makers in the city to work on a special cocktail offering as well as a bar with local craft beer, gin and much more. Well known for throwing a party, each weekend will have a full line-up of disco DJs, live bands and lots more.
Oliver Press said: “We believe that we would become the anchor tenant of Cains brewery and we would attract so many new people to the site. We would really kick-start the idea of a brewery village. Cains is such an iconic brand and building in Liverpool with a colourful history. We want to contribute to the history of Cains, and we hope that our chapter will be remembered for many years to come.”
David Williams added: “Our food hall would be the taste of Liverpool. We would have a mixture of established independent Liverpool businesses, street food vendors, and we would also become a food incubator for newly qualified chefs from local colleges, and/or budding restauranteurs who want to trial their idea before they make the ambitious move of getting their own premises.”
Independent Liverpool started just over four years ago and was co-founded by David Williams and Oliver Press. It started off as a blog to highlight the city’s best kept secrets and has since evolved into the heartbeat of independent culture in the city.
