Spartacus: A Fusion of Jazz, Hip-Hop, and Soul, To Set Liverpool Alight This Winter

Sensational music act Spartacus, led by the renowned Robert ‘Sput’ Searight, prepares to grace Liverpool this winter. On 5 November at 7:30 pm, District, Liverpool, will come alive with the soulful and groundbreaking sounds of Spartacus, promising an unforgettable night of musical innovation.

Spartacus is not your typical music act. It is a collaborative project that brings together pioneers of the US and European jazz, hip-hop, and soul scenes, offering a unique and electrifying musical experience. This performance is an exclusive opportunity to witness new music at its absolute best, and it’s an event that no true music aficionado should miss.

At the heart of Spartacus is Robert Sput Searight, a musical maestro who has left an indelible mark on the world of modern music. Searight is not only a gifted drummer but also a keyboardist and producer of exceptional talent.

He has graced the stage with legendary band Toto and is the driving force behind his own band, Ghost-Note. His musical journey began at an astonishing pace, winning a Grammy at the tender age of 18 with the groundbreaking gospel group God’s Property, which revolutionised gospel music with their debut album. Since then, he has amassed an impressive collection of 8 Grammy awards, a testament to his enduring influence in the industry.

Searight’s versatility knows no bounds, having collaborated with a stellar lineup of artists that reads like a who’s who of modern music. From Snoop Dogg to Herbie Hancock, from Snarky Puppy to Justin Timberlake, his musical prowess has graced the work of icons across genres. Notably, he’s worked with the likes of Marcus Millar, Erykah Badu, Celine Dion, P Diddy, Timbaland, and Kirk Franklin, showcasing his adaptability and enduring relevance.

Joining Searight on stage is an ensemble of equally exceptional musicians. Liselotte Östblom, a multi-instrumentalist, producer, songwriter, and artist known for blurring the lines between genres, promises to captivate the audience with her soulful immersion and influences from alternative R&B, jazz, and gospel. Her musical journey, from her debut EP “A Paintbrush Unfold” to her solo endeavors as smiling LIS, has garnered critical acclaim and brought her to prominent stages like the London Jazz Festival, Stockholm Jazz Festival, Love Supreme Fest, and Wigmore Hall.

Another shining star in the Spartacus lineup is Holger Marjamaa, a highly sought-after pianist based in New York City. His musical prowess has seen him collaborate with a wide array of artists, including Lee Ritenour, Chris Botti, Dennis Chambers, Randy Brecker, Miguel Zenon, Lizz Wright, and many others. David Foster himself once remarked, “I could listen to Holger all day, every day,” after witnessing his performance with Chris Botti at the Blue Note New York in 2022.

Also, joining the lineup is Aron Hodek. At 12 years old, bass player phenom Aron Hodek from Slovakia, better known as AronTheBassist, is one of the most talented bass players the world has ever seen. Growing up in a music driven family gave him a great opportunity to develop his passion early on. His DIY YouTube videos, TikTok, and Instagram directed at his 450k Instagram followers are his platforms to inspire and encourage people to never give up on their dreams.

The legendary producer Quincy Jones acknowledged his amazing talent, but also musicians like Chris Brown, Ty Dolla Sign, Common, Timbaland, DJ Battlecat, Larrance Dopson, Robert Glasper among other industry icons now follow his talent. Since 2018 he’s been also producing and writing original music, which led to his debut EP “The Seed” featuring artists like Doobie Powell, Keyon Harrold, Devin Morrison, Derrick Hodge, Reuben James, Gwen Bunn etc. The EP was released in 2022, and it has achieved global success.

And last but not least is David Hodek, Aron’s big brother and one of the most respected drummers and producers on the European music scene. He was raised in a musical family and he started playing the drums at the age of 3.

Throughout his career he worked with people like Vic Mensa, Phonte Coleman, George Cables, Keyon Harrold, Doobie Powell, Devin Morrison, Casey Benjamin etc. Besides jazz, he also plays hip-hop, R&B, funk, pop. In his early career, at the age of 12, he was rewarded with the “Talent of the year 2009” award by Austrian Music Office. In the last few years he’s been also actively working on many projects as a music producer and music director. Currently he’s a part of Aron Hodek & The PocketCrew, and the Soweto Kinch trio.
