Signature Live Sessions – The Farm and Sub Blue

Signature Live Sessions returned to the Shankly Hotel on Wednesday 15th August for its second outing showcasing some of Liverpool’s finest musical talent. Usually set on the Eden roof terrace overlooking the incredible Liverpool skyline, this evening’s gig had to be moved indoors due to the rain – classic British summer time weather at its finest. The rain didn’t dampen the mood however, as Liverpool favourite, The Farm and rising local star Sub Blue took to the stage to a packed out audience.

Kicking off the festivities, 21-year-old vocalist, musician and songwriter, Tyler Mensah, who performs under the name Sub Blue, brought his chilled RnB vibes to the packed out room. Influenced by big hitters like Frank Ocean and The Weeknd, Sub Blue offered smooth beats and intelligent song writing inspired by 21st century youth culture and growing up as a teenager in Merseyside. Performing tracks such as ‘Range Rover’ and ‘Take A Picture’ from his recently released EP, Suburban View and a haunting cover of Frank Ocean’s, ‘Self Control’, Sub Blue proved to be an act to watch out for on the North West music scene.

Next to grace the stage, local chart toppers, The Farm, who rose to fame in the early 1990s and produced anthems recognised throughout the decade; brought classic tracks such as, ‘Groovy Train’, which got the crowd up and dancing and ‘All Together Now’, that allowed for an anthemic group sing along from the whole room. Ending on a political note with a cover of, ‘Bank Robber’ by The Clash, The Farm treated the audience to an evening of 90s nostalgia and Liverpool pride that never goes away in this city.

The real strength of the evening was the feeling of inclusivity, by mixing 1990’s Mersey cult hits and 21st century youth RnB, the night brought together audiences from every generation and walk of life in Liverpool. Totally free of charge and open to the public, Signature Live Sessions is already establishing itself as a unique monthly live music event in the city, showcasing Liverpool’s best talent with an amazing view to top it off.

Keep an eye on the Signature Living Facebook page for announcements of more Live Sessions soon.
