Natalie McCool Shows Us What She’s Made Of With Her Latest Single

Natalie McCool is an indie-pop artist, originally from Merseyside, who released her vibrant and upbeat new single Show Me What You’re Made Of, on 30 November.

Natalie has made a striking appearance at the BBC Introducing curated Knowsley Music Festival, as well as a succession of incredible shows from her tour of the UK and the US in 2022. This new song is a nod to the stories and nostalgia that characterised her album Memory Girl (2021) and maintains her quick-witted, vivacious style.

She comments, “This song is about looking in the mirror and the mental pep talk you give yourself sometimes… looking at old photos of yourself through the years, remembering all the different versions of you that have existed and how you got to this one. It’s about learning lessons and standing up for yourself, even if you’re inconsistent with it.”

Show Me What You’re Made Of is comprised of beautiful vocals, showcasing the range of McCool’s effortlessly dulcet tones. The music itself is also great to listen to with its upbeat synths, catchy guitar riffs and energetic beat. The way she layers her sound is so unique and captures four minutes of absolute euphoria. McCool is definitely a gem of Liverpool’s music scene and is going on to do even more incredible things.

The lyrics are cathartic, emotional and imbued pent-up frustration – this rawness starkly contrasting the light and energetic melody to make it an intricate and potent track to listen to. They have a wonderful, storytelling quality that was inspired from fan stories featured in the Memory Girl Project. Natalie notes, ‘when I was experimenting with song concepts and ideas, this song just came out. It’s interesting because it’s not about any of their memories, it’s my response to them, looking at my own experiences. It’s the whole album journey come full circle, I guess.

McCool has worked with some indie and pop icons over the years such as The Wombats’ Dan Haggis, who co-wrote and produced her latest album. She has also performed as a support act for artists such as Aurora, Boy George and Joan Armatrading, at festivals and concerts across Europe and the United States. We have no doubt that her music will continue to thrive as she creates tracks bursting at the seams with confidence, boldness and a metamorphic approach to pop as a genre.
