Mellowtone Downstairs At The Everyman Returns This Week

Mellowtone has a great lineup for their Downstairs At The Everyman event coming up on Thursday 9 March.

The show will feature Granfalloon; a mixture of alt-folk, alt-country, and alt-everything else by songwriter and producer Richard Lomax.

Also performing on the night will be Rachael Jean Harris, who carves a highly-individual sound melding folk, jazz and rock, by drawing from a love of adventurous writers such as PJ Harvey and Esperanza Spalding.

There’ll be spoken word by Matt Jacobson, with DJ Jonnie O’Hare (Beaten Tracks) and poet Plazzy Bag completing the line-up.

GRANFALLOON
Granfalloon is the project of songwriter and producer Richard Lomax. A mixture of alt-folk, alt-country, and alt-everything else.  2022 saw the release of his fourth album ‘Calendar – Volume 1’, focusing more on traditional song writing, and not quite traditional storytelling, to chisel out small, beautiful moments. It showcases this non-traditional storytelling with subject matter like… the meta-narrative approach to the dangers to you and the relationships around you that writing can have, expressing love through mathematical formulae, and 8 year old girls catching bees in Tupperware boxes, all with a heavy dose of Richard Lomax’s absurdism.
Utterly enchanting” – Crack Magazine
Music that wouldn’t sound out of place in a Wes Anderson film” – Drunken Werewolf
My kind of artist” -Tom Robinson, BBC 6 Music

RACHAEL JEAN HARRIS
Rachael Jean Harris carves a highly individual sound, melding folk, jazz and rock, drawing from a love of adventurous writers such as PJ Harvey and Esperanza Spalding and allowing a love of poetry and literature to shine in her thoughtful lyrics.  The majority of her songs fall into rich themes surrounding the lives of people on the raw edges of existence – women in conflict zones, men in long term confinement; whilst her recent work is grown from more personal roots, as she discovers how journeys through grief, past relationships and new freedoms find solace and reverberation within the natural world. Rachael’s new single, Feather and Bone is out now.
Wildly original songwriting” – Tom Robinson, BBC6 Music

MATT JACOBSON
A man of words, Matt Jacobson is an author, music writer and spoken word artist.  He is also a spoken word artist with successful written word submissions to a variety of radio stations and theatres, including tonight’s venue!  Matt also curates his very own ‘Leap of Faith’ poetry and spoken word night, to encourage and support the community to take the leap into the creative world.

DJ JONNIE O’HARE
A collector and music obsessive for decades, early on Jonnie listened to Soul, Disco, Rock & Electronic Dance, going on to generate an interest in discovering the roots of this music. Continuing to explore his discoveries, Jonnie has developed a style which blends genres from Jazz, Hip Hop, Funk & Soul to various forms of Roots and Dance music.

Compered by PLAZZY BAG
Our guest compere for the evening is Plazzybag… she has been many things, none of which have quite stuck. Most recently she is a poet, artist and tattooer and will probably do this for a few years, until she realises she’s not very good. She does, however, try her best at everything and is quite sound.
