Liverpool Girl Geeks Partner With Tech North To Offer Free Coding Courses

Liverpool Girl Geeks have tackled 2016 head on by offering their ‘Get Your Head Around Code’ courses for free in partnership with Tech North, a government funded initiative whose aim is to accelerate the development of the North’s digital economy.

Having begun in early December Liverpool Girl Geeks met with Suzanne Jameson from Liverpool City Council and Coral Grainger, Tech North’s Head of Talent, whilst on a visit to discover everything wonderful and techy the city had to offer. Coral and the Liverpool Girl Geeks ladies shared a joint passion for encouraging and empowering women to enter the the tech and digital sector, so decided to work together to make sure Liverpool’s women are at the forefront of that shift.

Chelsea Slater, Co-Founder said “Coral was straight to the point in our meeting and we connected instantly through our passion for the growth of Digital and Technology within Liverpool. All three off us bounced our ideas off  each other and within weeks they had agreed to support one of our courses”

Fellow co-founder Rebecca Jones adds “There are so many girls in Liverpool interested in Tech, they just don’t know what careers there are available to them or where to start, so that’s where we come in. When we launched Get your Head around Code as a fully-funded session it booked up incredibly fast. We offered 30 places for Jan, Feb and March and they went in less than a week which is extremely exciting for the city and shows the demand for this type of activity”

Get Your Head Around Code attendee Aisling Davis tweeted “ I cannot wait to get stuck into programming and I am so glad that there are a whole network in Liverpool who are the same”

Liverpool Girl Geeks have existed for a number of years with the core aim of getting Liverpool’s women more tech savvy and able to access the ever expanding digital industry. Having organised a number local events and ran a series of successful courses they are excited to expand their offer by offering sessions for free as well as new courses in app design and digital project management later on in the year.
