Little Italy is part of the Neon Jamon/TriBeCa family and is nestled next to TriBeCa on Smithdown Road. It’s pretty, light and bright with some big ol’ trees inside.
The menu is, essentially, Italian tapas with a nice selection of classics with some not-so-obvious dishes thrown in to keep it interesting. A pigeon and hedgerow salad, with blackberries, blood orange, hazelnuts and watercress, lovely little pork and veal sliders with buffalo mozzarella, Napoli sauce and fresh basil, beautiful beef shin pappardelle and salt cod & langoustine ravioli are some highlights.
If you know what you like and like what you know, there’s a really great Caprese salad and a great selection of charcuterie.
Bottles of water on the table, friendly, efficient service and a nice little soundtrack.
Clientele is mixed with several families with bambinos, ladies who lunch, a couple of tables of older ladies getting pleasantly giddy on Pinot Grigio and a couple of tables of suburban hipsters.
They do a ‘two for £8 offer’ during the week, which is good value. Otherwise, most dishes come in between £5 and £7.
Liverpool isn’t really spoilt for good Italians so Little Italy scores points for great, simple Italian food.
