'Last Line Out' Debut EP Review

Last Line Out EP Cover

Having seen and enjoyed Last Line Out’s live output earlier in the year I already knew they produced a quality sound. Could they reproduce it in the recording studio, though? Always a tricky one. One thing you need to know before we begin, this band can really play. I never had any doubts on that score, but I wondered if they could transfer their live excellence onto disc. I put away my doubts and slid the CD out of the attractive cover and popped it into my lap top.

The first track, ‘Blind Lead the Blind’, showed the band at their most soulful and introspective. Although I prefer their more up-beat songs, ‘Blind Lead the Blind’ is an accomplished start to the EP. The slightly moody introduction leads perfectly into the song proper, the sophisticated vocals delivered perfectly, set off by a classy, unhurried guitar interlude completing the melancholy feel of the piece.

‘Can’t Take My Soul’ took the tempo up a notch and showed just how fine a rock band this is. Fabulous bluesy rock perfection, with a little slide guitar and chunky rhythms I couldn’t fault. Anthony Seddon has an amazing voice, and a brilliant band to back it up.

‘Smile’ was my favourite track. It had a more rock and roll vibe, but when has it ever hurt to go back to your roots a little? Featuring yet another superb guitar interlude beginning with some really strong drumming and support from the rhythm section (the real heroes of this track), I really thought this captured the energy the band produce live.

The concluding track, ‘Burn’ was slightly more paired down. The main focus of the track falls on the vocals supported by a really good repeating guitar riff that gives the chorus definition. A section featuring melodious guitar, something this band excels at, gives the track a special edge.

The whole EP has a sleek rock vibe which should resonate with fans of rock excellence everywhere. Given that their live performance is even better than this top-notch EP, I’d like to think Last Line Out have a promising future. With this much talent on show, things are only likely to get better.

The EP is set to be released around Easter time and we’ll keep you posted with the EP launch info soon.

You can follow the band on Facebook & Twitter and listen to their demo’s on Soundcloud.
