Katy Alex’s EP ‘Glow’ Is A Slice of Pop Perfection

The latest EP from Katy Alex has arrived! Faced with an intense build to the release, she has rose up in the face of adversity and created a brilliant 4 track EP – in her own words creating “Boss, bouncy pop bangers!”

Speaking about the title track, Alex said “I remember travelling home from a holiday that was supposed to be a celebration for my birthday and first official solo release feeling totally helpless, I just couldn’t see a way around what I was going through. After some tears were shed I fired up my laptop to work on some music, the quickest and easiest way to distract myself. I remembered in that moment why I write, to express myself, a form of therapy in a way. The best songs are made from raw emotions, and ‘Glow’ is no exception to this. As Disney-esque as it sounds, no one can take away your dreams, and I’ll never stop making music because someone else is trying their hardest to make me. For me, ‘Glow’ perfectly captures the emotions I felt at that time, a powerful message to anyone going through moments of hopelessness to fight back for what you deserve, to turn the pain others inflict on you into a superpower that drives you forwards.”

Alex wrote Glow during a drive back from a family holiday whilst her musical career was in turmoil, but the sentiments of the songs still have an empowering upbeatness to them.

Following the release of her last single Maliblues Alex gained plenty of praise from the likes of Radio One, Spotify and many more. The last two singles Sad Songs and Show You How To Love Me both have a similar R&B feel with a lot of great producing to create a well balanced EP.

Her songwriting inspirations hark back to likes of KT Tunstall which led her to the guitar and her first dabbles of songwriting at an early age, before lately being influenced by modern pop, especially female solo artists. Who knows where the next host of influences will lead her?

The Glow EP is out now – stream it on Spotify and all major streaming platforms now. Follow Katy Alex on Twitter and Instagram for updates.
