El Gato Negro Invites Guests To Get Tipsy With Tapas To Celebrate Three Years In Liverpool

Acclaimed tapas restaurant El Gato Negro is bringing back Tipsy Tapas for the August Bank holiday.

The hugely popular dining event is being staged in celebration of the restaurant’s third anniversary, with the restaurant raising a glass to three years at Exchange Flags this month (August).

Guests are invited to join in the party at the beautiful Grade II heritage building and enjoy three small plates and bottomless sangria, Bandarra spritz, bellinis, fizz, white wine, red wine, or lager for just £40.  Reservations are based on a 90-minute sitting.

Amongst the dishes available to be enjoyed are El Gato Negro’s highly sought-after bikini (toasted sandwich with jamòn serrano, Manchego & truffle butter); padrón peppers with Halen Môn sea salt (vg); salt cod fritters with tartare sauce (4 units); crispy fried baby squid with lemon aioli; mini Catalan chorizo with Aspall cider; chargrilled chicken skewers, chickpea purée, salsa verde; and patatas bravas with spiced tomato fritarda sauce and aioli (v).

For those looking to further sweeten the occasion a selection of the restaurant’s most popular desserts also feature including tarta Santiago with ginger and honey cream; mini Basque cheesecake with biscoff sauce and caramel tuile (v); and chocolate brownie with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream (v).

Located in the heart of Exchange Flags and with an impressive, heated terrace looking directly across to Nelson Monument, El Gato Negro is recognised for its impressive small plates and cocktails served in one of the most beautiful buildings in Liverpool. 

Launched in August 2019, just eight months ahead of the start of the pandemic, the restaurant and bar has established itself as one of the city’s most coveted restaurant and bars, serving over half a million small plates to guests since opening.

Speaking on the celebrations, General Manager at El Gato Negro, Lucy Silcock, who has been with the business from launch and successfully steered it to its third anniversary, said: “I’m not sure where the last three years have gone but we’ve loved every minute of them here at Exchange Flags, Liverpool.

“We’re looking forward to raising a glass to our third anniversary with guests and embracing what we’re sure will be a fantastic bank holiday weekend.  Our Tipsy Tapas events are incredibly popular with this one promising to be extra special.  Whilst walk-ins are always welcome we encourage guests to book in advance so as not to be disappointed.”

Tipsy Tapas is available exclusively from Friday August 26 to Sunday August 28 over the Bank Holiday weekend.  The last Tipsy Tapas sitting is at 4pm.  For those looking to celebrate with friends ahead of the weekend, El Gato Negro has introduced carafes of red wine, white wine, and cava sangria for just £12, available every day from 12pm – 4pm and all day on Sunday when dining from the à la carte menu.

El Gato Negro is open Monday to Sunday 12pm – late (last sitting 22:00).  The restaurant and bar, located in a beautiful Grade II heritage building boasts 240 covers across the one impressive open floor.  Key features include an impressive island bar with seating for 70, a chef’s table, outdoor terrace with views across the historic square and a private dining room for 16.  Christmas reservations are now open.
