The Easiest Ways to Make Your Guest Room Feel Like Home

A guest bedroom can be a welcome addition to any home. It means that you can invite friends and family to stay anytime and makes occasions like Christmas much easier to organise. If you have a spare room at home, it’s easy to add a bed and call it a guest room. But if you want to offer your guests a warm and inviting space where they can relax and feel at home, it can take a little more work. Here are some of the best, and easiest ways to make your guest room feel like home.

Upgrade the Mattress

If your guest room isn’t regularly used or is only slept in for a night at a time, you might be tempted to buy a cheap, basic mattress. But this kind of mattress is often uncomfortable and could leave your guests with backache or a sore neck. It certainly won’t help them to feel at home or get a good night’s sleep. Upgrading to a comfortable and supportive mattress is a great way to look after your guests.

Invest in the Bedding

The same goes for bedding. Cheap bedding can be scratchy and uncomfortable. Your guests might find it hard to sleep and be glad to leave and return to their own nice soft beds. Investing in warm and comfortable bedding with a high thread count will help them to get a good night’s sleep.

Have Extras within Easy Reach

If you want your guests to feel welcome and at home, you should expect them to relax. Which can sometimes mean that there are spillages or other accidents. Make sure you provide things like spare towels and bed linen so that they can find them easily without having to feel awkward asking for help.

You should also stock your spare room with extra blankets and pillows to help your guests get comfy.

Give Your Guests Storage Options

Whether your guests are staying for a night or much longer, they’ll have luggage, and they’ll never feel at home if they are living out of a suitcase. Give them room to unpack and spread out with a chest of drawers or wardrobe and either a bedside table or a shelf near the bed.

Leave Room for Luggage

It’s also hard to feel at home if you are always stepping around a suitcase to get anywhere. Make sure your guests can slide their cases under the bed, or easily pack them away into a cupboard for a more comfortable stay.

Add Seating

To give your guests a little privacy, and options on how they use their room, you want to give them the chance to do more in the room than just sleep. Adding comfortable seating, and even a sofa or small table and chairs if there is space gives them more options and the chance to spend some waking time on their own, without having to get into bed.

Put a Charger by the Bed

Nowadays, if there’s one thing that we all travel with, and wouldn’t like to be without, it’s our phone charger. Having one on the bedside table will help your guests to relax if they forget theirs.

Add A Lamp

A lamp is a small touch that gives a room extra functionality and means that your guests can read or talk in bed without having to get out to turn the main lights off when they are ready.

Leave Some Luxury Toiletries in the Room

What’s better than feeling at home? Feeling like you are staying in a luxury hotel room. Adding a few luxury toiletries will make your guests feel special and is a thoughtful and welcoming touch.

Upgrade Your Guest Towels

If your guest towels are just old towels that you don’t use anymore, then it’s time to rethink. Offering your guests high-quality organic towels instead is a great way to make them feel welcome and looked after, and premium certified organic cotton towels are an easy addition. Make sure you leave the guest towels on the bed, or piled on a chair in the guest room, so that they know which to use and don’t have to go searching for towels when they need them.

Brighten Up Dull Walls

Painting walls a shade of off-white or cream is easy. It won’t offend anyone, it’s bright, and it looks tidy. But it’s boring, impersonal, and not a colour that people choose for their own homes. Adding some colour to at least one of your walls is a great way to make the room feel more like home. If you’d prefer to stick to the off-white wall, add colour to accessories, soft furnishings, and bedding for a more personal touch.

Putting in a little effort to make your guest room feel more like home will make your guests feel welcome and help them to relax. This means that they’ll want to stay more often, and you’ll all have a fantastic time together when they do.
