One of the newest eateries on the Bold Street block is Chez Le Coq. It specialises in chicken and uses nothing but healthy ingredients – which is a big relief for us diners. They serve food which is French rustic, with an American twist; one to add to the list of alternative restaurants who neighbour them.
All chicken lovers will admire the place, not just for their delicious and well-presented meals but for the attire and décor of the venue itself. It’s got that chilled out vibe where you can go to wind down for a nice meal. Although Chez Le Coq doesn’t offer alcohol for beverages you won’t be going thirsty as they still have a nice selection of soft drinks on the menu.
I brought my partner to try out their food to see for myself if the word on the street was true – that this is the finest chicken place around Liverpool.
We reserved a table, which didn’t seem necessary as when we got there a bit earlier than 7pm, it was near empty and we could pick the best seats in the house, however it did start to pick up around 7.30-8pm and you could tell some of these people were regulars, not even checking the menu to order their meals.
As we looked through the menu and came to a quick decision, I ordered Grilled Halloumi cheese on a bed of fresh salad for a starter (£4.95) whilst my partner opted for spicy chicken wings (5 wings for £4.95).
My partner went for half chicken with Lemon & Herb spice (£7.00) with a side of Grilled Sweet Potato Wedges (£2.95) which was served with a selection of dips to compliment the meal.
I was persuaded by the Butterfly Chicken (£6.95), which came with a side salad and a choice between spicy rice or freshly cut chips – trying to be a bit healthier, I opted immediately for the spicy rice, which went down a treat.
The meals were quality and great portion sizes, we were both stuffed and wouldn’t dare look at the dessert menu, for the thoughts of us being too greedy. We walked away from the place satisfied and with a full stomach. The staff were very friendly and helpful when it came to ordering, and ensuring we enjoyed our meals. You could tell they really take care of their customers, which we loved.
For the total price of £34.60 for the two of us, it’s definitely one of the cheapest and finest restaurants we’ve visited in a while. And of course if you’re a member of Independent Liverpool you get the advantage of having 10% off your bill! We’ve already planned our next visit.
Cheq Le Coq also have a takeout service, that delivers around Liverpool – book online to reserve a table or phone up to order.
