Addley Releases Heartfelt Debut Single ‘Where You Were’

Addley is an alternative songwriter based in Liverpool that incorporates hints of electronic music into his own sound. He draws inspiration from artists such as Bicep, Daughter, Florence and the Machine, Faithless and London Grammar.

As most of us know, grief and loss is a difficult topic to discuss and express. Addley finds a way to convey his personal feelings of grief and loss into his debut single Where You Were. The song leads with melancholy orchestral instruments sitting on intense drums. Addley’s gentle voice fits well into the mix as he sings about his experience. The chorus is where the emotion is truly felt, with the electronic influences pushing through to create an even deeper feeling of sadness and reflection.

The contrasting interactions of the electronic characteristics with the live band set up and orchestral instruments creates a sound that is distinctively alternative. The way the piece combines these sounds together makes it feel natural and unique simultaneously. The pleasing blend harnesses the complex emotions that Addley infuses into his work. It proves that feelings of grief aren’t black and white by portraying the spectrum of emotions that are felt. It is clear he has a talent for voicing his sensitive experiences into something more complex.

Addley’s ability to mix elements from different genres to create a piece that tugs the heart strings is perfect for an impactful debut. Where You Were was featured on BBC Introducing Merseyside and had over 1000 streams within the first week of release. With the success of his first single, Addley is excited to perform his debut headline gig at Jimmy’s in Liverpool with the rest of his band and support act Beige Savasna. With such a texturally rich and beautiful sounding debut, we look forward to hearing what else Addley has up his sleeve.
