3 Reasons Why You Should Choose Sustainable Fashion in 2022

Sustainable living has become an important lifestyle trend in 2021. Now, people are understanding the need for sustainable living through an increased awareness of the environment.

There are many ways that we can adopt a sustainable approach to living. Today, we will be focusing on sustainable fashion. Here are three reasons why you should consider it.

Reduces Our Carbon Footprint

It is no secret that the global fashion industry emits an enormous amount of greenhouse gases each year. This negatively contributes to global warming. But why can the fashion industry be so harmful? A lot of clothing is petroleum-based and made from fossil fuels like polyester. These materials require a lot more energy in the production phase unlike recycled materials.

You will tend to find sustainable brands use natural and recycled materials as they require little to no chemical treatment. You can learn more about how to reduce your carbon footprint through some online research. Shopping sustainably is certainly a step in the right direction.

Teaches Us Appreciation

It is becoming increasingly important for us to re-consider our buying choices. It can be easy to look at a piece of clothing in store and feel drawn to it. We can purchase it without even thinking about how it was made and the dark story that could be hiding behind its lifecycle. By choosing to shop sustainably, you are learning to appreciate your clothing more. You are making a conscious effort to think about how it was made and appreciate that process.

Sustainable Fashion 2

Take a look at these black tights from Heist Studios as an example. They are made using sustainable materials and methods, ensuring that the product has minimal impact. Their “buy less, buy better” mantra means their pieces are made to last. They are made by women, for women, for all body types. So, next time you go to pick up a new item of clothing, look into the story behind it. Is the brand sustainable? What do they stand for?

Promotes Fairer Working Conditions

Poor working conditions continue to be present across the fashion industry. Factors like minimum wage, unacceptable health and safety conditions and endless working hours continue to dominate workers lives. Sustainable fashion brands are advocates for better working conditions. Not only do they provide humane working conditions, but they also provide health care and fair wages. Unfortunately, this is not the case for workers in the fast fashion sector.

A huge part of shopping sustainably is feeling great about the clothes that we own. We don’t just want items of clothing that look good in a shop window, but we also want clothes that were made under better working conditions. The well-being of garment workers in the fashion industry should be prioritised. Most garment workers are often forced to work 14 to 16 hours a day, 7 days a week. A figure that is shocking and one that can significantly improve if we start to think smartly about the clothes that we choose to purchase.
