3 Of The Best Liverpool Players Of All Time

When it comes to English football clubs, you will struggle to find one more iconic than Liverpool. Over the years, this is a club that has shown itself to be one of the very best. Not just in England but in Europe too. With an amazing 18 league titles, along with five European Cups, and seven FA Cups, there are few clubs that even come close to matching Liverpool’s achievements.

While Liverpool has a strong squad right now, players from the past feature heavily when looking at the best players that the club has ever had. In truth, it is hard to tell what the safest bet would ever have been. Without knowing what we know now, would we have wagered on Liverpool in past seasons? Is there enough confidence in today’s team to bet on another league title any time soon? You can read more soccer news and come to an informed decision for yourself, but first, we’re going to share who we think are three of the very best Liverpool players of all time.

Steven Gerrard

As the current manager of Aston Villa, you only need to look at the welcome Gerrard was given when he took his team to Anfield to realise that he will forever be a Liverpool legend. While he refused to allow sentiment to get in the way of what was an important match, he can’t fail but to have been touched by the scenes in the stadium that he knows better than most. Having graduated through the youth programme, he made an impressive 700 appearances in his famous red shirt.

As captain of the club, Gerrard became a footballing role model. He proved himself a great leader as well as someone capable of strong tackles. What he was best known for was perhaps the speed at which he could kick a ball. With some 150 goals to his name, there is no doubt that Gerrard is one of Liverpool’s finest.

Kenny Dalglish

For one generation, Dalglish is perhaps remembered solely as a manager of Liverpool. For another, he was one of the very best players to ever walk out onto the pitch at Anfield. Known affectionately as King Kenny, many recall his goal from 1978 that saw his club land the European Cup. With 172 goals to choose from, this remains one of his best and most memorable.

Dalglish wasn’t just loved and respected by Liverpool fans. His ability to strike saw him respected across Europe, with European clubs being terrified by his approach. As his playing days came to an end, Dalglish remained loyal to Liverpool and went on to manage the club. During his spell in charge, he led the club to three First Division titles (in the days before the EPL) and one FA Cup.

Ian Rush

When partnered with Kenny Dalglish, this duo struck fear into opponents across England and Europe. Rush has long been regarded as a player who was tireless in his efforts and flawless when it came to his attitude on the pitch. It was this attitude that led to him becoming Liverpool’s all-time record goalscorer with an impressive 346 goals from 660 appearances.

Raised as an Everton supporter, turning red can’t have been easy for Rush, but his achievements show that he certainly made the right decision. He was just 13 when his ability to score saw him drawing the attention of Liverpool and Many Utd scouts. This scoring ability only went on to get better and so he will always be remembered as Liverpool’s greatest ever goalscorer.
