The Soul Rays At Chester Live Rooms; Review
100%Overall Score

January – the weirdest month of the year where everyone is super tired and skint from the Christmas madness but also hopeful for what is to come in the New Year.

As I stepped in to Chester Live Rooms, it wasn’t clear exactly how the night would pan out. With the DJ playing some old school tracks whilst individuals stood dancing with one hand clutching their pint and the other in the air. The Soul Ray’s took to the stage, taking a while to get started but this only built up my suspense. Being described as ‘Straight up funk band from Liverpool’, I never really knew what to expect. I probably do things the wrong way around but I try not to listen to a band before I see them live, I like to get the feel for what they’re like on stage.

The second the set began, I was impressed. From the get go Alex, Madalina and Nina completely owned the stage. Within 30 seconds, the audience were going nuts for them. It was very refreshing to see a band take to the stage with such confidence, as if they have been doing it for years. This atmosphere in the room could only be described as electric, people of all ages dancing like they were in the middle of a huge festival with no care in the world.

Backed with some top class brass, a rock solid rhythm section and occasional rapping from Drummer Phil, the ladies truly lit up the stage with incredible vocals. The perfect mix of songs with some absolute classics that had the whole audience on a trip down memory lane. At the end they revealed Alex would be leaving to explore the world, she will be missed but i’m sure they have something in the pipeline. If you’re looking to let your hair down and have a great night with an incredibly funky twist, make sure you see The Soul Ray’s this year.
