The four-piece Liverpudlian folk group Jimmy & The Revolvers specialise in laid-back music, just itching for the summer to begin. Each of their songs is the kind of soundtrack you can imagine playing quietly on a rainy afternoon whilst still lying in bed. Turn the volume up though and the band will help you get on with your day, with their jingling percussion sounds and catchy strings prompting all manner of toe-tapping and head-bobbing.
‘Sunday Morning’, the opening track and single from their EP of the same name, is a reminder of the long sunny days to come and the time off work after the end of a busy week. Older songs ‘Frosty’ and ‘Aimee’s Song’ are just as care-free. The gentle lyrics celebrate the simplicity in relationships, with the band emanating a positive outlook on life.
The album artwork is a nod towards the hippie movement of the 60s, bringing to mind the on-coming festival season. Drawing strong inspiration from the era, theirs is music that provides escapism, to a summer of no responsibilities or worries.
The band play Studio 2 Parr Street on Friday 25th April with support from Merseyside’s female folk duo ME and Deboe, and local rock-n-roll band The Haze.
The Coral’s Nick Power will also be DJing for the night. Tickets can be booked online. Listen to the band on their Soundcloud, follow them on Facebook and purchase their EP ‘Sunday Morning’ through their website or download via iTunes.
